Description It's thrilling in a way, slowly closing in for the short, a mere finger-span from an insect which is so easy to frighten away.

It's kind of obvious that this wasn't taken with a proper macro lens. I managed to capture the compound eyes, at least.

I feel like I'm moving on to bigger prey.

*Found out that this is a male scarlet darter!

What lens did you use for this shot? The result is good

The normal kit lens, but reversed. Turns it into a macro lens! It's a very useful trick

Ok, I have often heard about it but never risked it

Back when I used to do this, I used to do it without some kind of safety, like an adaptor ring. I have a few specks of dust on the sensor from doing that

Does not sound too camera friendly without the adaptor ring. I preferred getting a macro lens

you're welcome
when still immature in the adult stage, the violet dropwing will be reddish, but not as red as the Scarlet darter.

oh dude, just awesome! Even though the lens wasnt proper, you still managed to capture quite a gorgeous shot!
Btw how do you have the courage to photograph a dragonfly without fear? I heard they sting quite nasty :S

Maybe because I haven't been stung yet And maybe because I knew i couldn't pass off the opportunity of taking a picture like this. I'm glad I didn't chicken out XD

Kinda weird. The only dragonflies we have around here are of green and blue variants. I've never seen a red dragonfly before.

I love how the wing closest to you has such detail, yet is still transparent.

Haha. The only dragonflies I have ever seen are the red dragonfly and the emperor dragonfly. Now, the emperor would have been scary to get close to XD
