Here is the new concept art for Pumyra for ThunderCats. I made some changes to her hair because it felt to 50's earth-like. But I tried to save as much as possible. There is a fold out crossbow on the reverse of her forearm band, but you'll have to wait to see it.Related content

I Really love this design theres so much you can do with it, i think her betrayal would have help Lion-O Man up a bit and be a proper king. Although i hoped she would betrayed mumm-ra some how like Panthera did. I thought it would have been cool if Ben-Gali was Mumm-Ra's black smith and if he and Pumyra took the soul stone and gave it to lion-o instead of slithe. But i stilll like what was revealed of season 2. I wish you could sketch up a Bengali concept in 2011 form so we know how he would have looked and if you could reveal more about season 2? Not sure if your too busy and your not using this account currently as you may have other work. Either way your a big inspiration Dan.

I was pretty excited to see Pumyra join the Thundercat team, especially since she didn't get as much screentime as she deserved in the original series...However, not gonna lie, I didn't like how she went from being a peace loving healer who fought only when necessary to an angsty gladiatrix, the team had more need for a decent field medic & someone with a cool head than a grim avenger character. I also HATED that awful twist towards the end of the series, turning any of the thundercats evil just felt wrong to me on every level, Grune's the only evil thundercat we need...Honestly glad we'll never see her turned into a bug monster as planned in future seasons >_<
However, one positive I can say about the new Pumyra is that I dig the wrist bow idea, nice weapon choice. I just hope future incarnations of Pumyra will be on the side of good rather than evil, the Thundercats need more adult female members besides Cheetara...& before 2011 Pumyra turned evil, I actually liked the idea of her & Lion-O as a couple :3

I want to give you a virtual fist bump to how you handled the one guy earlier complaining about her design. I for one love it. Lion-O needs a ride or die chick and man is she that in spades. Tigra can haven Cheetara, Pumyra will pound a guy's skull in with her bare hands.
I've really enjoyed all the new visual designs of the new series. Especially the kids from last weeks episode. Will you be posting some sketch designs of the little flying squirrel girl? I'm always interested to see just how people come up with solving the problem of dressing a humanoid one of those.

In the old series,Pumyra was known as Pumyra the Healer. She was the Thundercat Doctor. In the early 2000's Her character was brought back by Wildstar Comics. They kept to the original concept and the only changes done were modifications to the character design. Wildstar published five miniseries and they were an extension of the original series. Pumyra now is more like a freedom fighter and warrior. My take on this is the storyline is moving away from the childlike fantasies of the original series and adding more drama.Dan and his team do an outstanding job on these new character designs. They fit in perfect with the storyline.We must keep in mind as Thundercat friends and fans is to put our full support behind Dan and his team.Keep watching the show and if need be fight the good fight. Kudos,to the writing staff,because it is about telling a good story.Kudos to Dan Norton and his team for breathing new life into the Thundercats. You've done a great honor to the memory of Ted Wolf. Outstanding Work! Thundercats HO!!!

Your the art director for a professional show ... and this is how you act? Granted I thought the original picture was good... but your attitude is awful. It's hard to respect someone as an artist when they act so childish like this. And I am sure with your tremendous amount of pride there will be no upcoming apology or any sense that you might have slipped up. If you're not going to represent yourself properly at least think about the show.

Um, yeah. This is how I act. Especially when some guy who's looking for some animation spank material chimes in complaining that it my art doesn't objectify women enough for his standards (Take a peek at his favorites folder).
You see, I have a spine. One that propels me to respond to someone who says something that offends me. Beyond that of an "Art Director" I am a man. As a man, I live by a code. It's your choice to defend the comments of someone I quantify as a misogynist. But I won't apologize for expressing my response to him. You see that would invalidate the fact I don't like his attitude toward women, or care for his post. But that was a conversation between him and I. How you think that involves you or you're shaking your finger at me doesn't concern me, nor does it illicit a sense of panic that would cause me to apologize.
As far as being professional, I've been respectful to my crew, my company and fans of the show. I've gone out of my way to give access and insight to the TCats production and given art instruction to up and comers. Prove it otherwise. Give me a reason why I should extend my graces to someone who offends me on my personal page, on my artwork. Why shouldn't I have the ability to speak out when I feel it's appropriate. I believe what you're really mad at is that you think that I somehow have it better than anyone else because of my position. And in that regard, I should just take whatever abusive, offensive, vapid and shallow remarks because of it. As if I somehow deserve it. So when I do speak up, I'm a child. I'm immature, unprofessional. I disagree with your indignant remarks on the matter. And I'll say good day to you sir.

I guess what everyone is trying to say is... calm down. This isn't the movies where you can change someones viewpoint with a long insightful speech. That guy who commented is still going to have those standards for women and that's just his thing. Besides, you said so yourself that he is just being immature so why bother? Why "stoop to his level" so to speak by getting so upset. It's just one comment on a site where 80% of the people here post bad drawings of their favorite anime characters. Really you could have gotten your point across with a simple, "Not all women look the same, especially cat women. Sorry.". Yes, no one expects you to be professional all the time and to have some emotion sometimes, but you outright raged at the guy. You couldn't just drop it. And when he did say sorry you couldn't except it. And now your interrogation and attempting to intimidate people like me that are just stepping in to say "Hey calm down, this is not what you want you're profession to look like. I know you've been having a hard time dealing with very rude and aggravating fans lately, Dan. I don't know if you'll see this message, but I and a whole lot of other people really appreciate you, your work, and all you've done for ThunderCats and the fan community. It pains me to see you get all worked up, so just take it easy and let us fans deal with our own kind.
Now, as for for Pumyra, I think she looks tough, cute, and sexy, and she's already even more popular than Cheetara, haha. The eyebrows took a little getting used to, but I can live with them. And I appreciate that you made her a little less buxom than Cheetara. Too bad the animators don't stick closer to your model.

I all ways loved Pumyra from the original series. I loved that she was a healer, that she was compassionate and how capable she was. Wished they expanded on that during the series. I love her even more now! She's amazing!
