Description When I exhibited this piece at the Church of Art in Norwich I met a woman called Jacky. Heres a summary of how she interpreted the piece...
'The picture shows the soul ascention process. The flower symbolises the last image a person may see when they leave their physical body and could be what they hold onto when they enter the next realm. They may not yet accept that they have left this world behind. The figures on the rocks are in the movement of going towards the next stage whereas the figures resting in the village are content with their present position. The Knight to the top left is trying to communicate to those still on this earth but the layered barriers are proving an obstacle. Whereas the lighthouse is shining a light on those of us still here and attempting to make the journey more clear. The blue light in the centre is tempting the souls into the possible harmony whereas the mechanism to the bottom left is sucking them into the abyss of the unknown'.

sorry for the late response.
i didnt have any meaning, spiritual or other, in this piece when i was designing it. i was creating a fantasy escapist piece based on the beauty in the small natural events that occur around us every day that we (or i) hardly recognise. i especially liked jackies comments as they were so coherent and the piece automatically connected with her. it is times like that that makes me speculate whether the creatice process of making a piece of art may have more meaning than merely freestyling a design. i hope that helps

This is great work... a bit philosophical, and a whole lot of psychodelic-esque! I really enjoyed the colours, somehow you managed to use many of them without overdoing it. Lovely.

its only an a3 piece so i didnt have to much room to over do it. also its on black paper so it dilutes it a certain extent and makes it more approachable..

Great techniques, really love the non-typical drawing style, makes me go crazy tough if I keep looking at it for too long.

But this drawing deserves an A+

thank you. but to be honest this was my stoned teenager style (not that many people notice the difference between my old stuff and new stuff). i used to do them spontaneously which is sometimes hit and miss but now i plan my pieces more i guess. i sometimes get tempted to get high again from time to time for arts-sake but ive got too many other things i want to do to the best of my ability at the mo. i would show you some of my new stuff but i havent done it yet.

i love the style of alot of your "stoned pics" probably because my art is now going through that same stage lol, the stuff one creates when high is crazily imaginative sometimes so u go "woah! how did i come up with that?" well, yeah. iv got a piece called 'the point of no return' to submit about the feelings u get when high, hopefully ill get it on soon. itd b great to see wot u think

It has an almost thrift shop feel to it, that or it makes me think of Bonfire Night, all those colours and little explosions of light and energy, like little worlds and many lives and thoughts.
It's an intriguing image and one I want to keep on exploring.

I don't know what to make of this, but it seems like a twisted Willy Wonka Factory to me. Everything about this is very visually appealing! I see depth in odd places, spatial aspects where it probably shouldn't be, odd shapes and objects, bursts of odd light, the brownish hue to the overall thing. Very nice

it reminds me a bit of willi wonka as well, i may change the title to water wax factory at some point as i enjoy changing titles. i did mix the dimensions well i reckon in this piece, an aspect of art i found much harder now i feel i have a 'more organised straight' mind. i dont feel my ability for pushing the dimensions so much nowadays, maybe its becus if i do i dont realise/get excited as much. thanks for checking out the willi waxman water wonks work..

I see a town in europe, its very happy with a festival going on. It also gets my imagination flying off about some woman in a hat, who is very elegant(looks like a hat over to the right). It just reached out and sucked me in.
Im originally a nature photographer if your curious, I try many different styles.

danpurcell In reply to a-temptednudity [2005-08-18 16:13:01 +0000 UTC]

funny you mentioning a woman in a hat, as , although i cant see it in this piece, ive been debating for a while whether to properlly do an old design with a ice figure with a big top hat on with lights shing on her. i like the description of a festival town. come to think of it , the lighting in .00. and some of ur pictures is quite similar to this in a way and coupled with the nature theme i can see how our styles overlap..

Fabulous use of color, it almost seems to glow. What did you use? I'm quite curious. This really is a beautiful piece, almost beyond words.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

danpurcell In reply to katronmaster [2005-08-18 17:37:43 +0000 UTC]

its colour pencil (caran d'ache and supracolor) on a3 black paper. i tried to redo it on white paper but it looked crap. i think the black underlayer adds a nice feel to it.

mmm very nice... or very trippy.
its... well hard to visualize energies... or untouchable things... so thats cool.
and secondly, its nice when things still form a shape, if you look close enough,,,
