I could name a list of things both metaphorical and literal.
Humpty Dumpty being an egg, is just one of those things that's seemingly always been depicted that way, despite not being mentioned as such in the source material.
From the top of my head, the only other thing I can think of that's remotely similar, is the forbidden fruit being an apple.
