Description
I was over at the drawingboard and came across a sweet drawing done by Francesco Francavilla of good ol' Kalibak. The muse carried over into this pic here. I stuck pretty close to the design I did for the Phantom Zone line up, with some minor improvements. I thought I'd also start posting more rough work too. I find the most energy in a piece is most often found at this stage. The key is to carry it over, which can take a lifetime of study and drawrin'. Cheers!Related content

I agree with you about energy and whatnot at this stage. I constantly get frustrated that when I finish with a piece the energy is lacking as opposed to the sketch. Hopefully I'll achieve that level of mastery like you have.

Out of all the New Gods characters I always found Kalibak the hardest one to draw. You make it look easy - nice work!

I actually enjoy looking at people's sketchy stuff more than some of the finished versions. It helps me as an art student to see how they went about it. I'm a very visual person so I love these kinds of drawings. Well done!
