I saw a piece about it on "Car Crazy" and it was the first "celebrity" hot rod and it kind of kicked off the genre. The ZZ Top "Eliminator" came about because of the success of the "California Kid". And yes, I saw the TV movie with Martin Sheen back in the early '70's.
