so i'm really new to photoshop and trying to learn; could you tell me what the middle, really white-ish picture is about? Is that a filter or white paint-over or something else? What's the purpose. Also, looked at your tutorial, I LOVE love love it, thank you! It really helps out us poor noobs.

That was just to show how much was painted over in the photo manip. It's not a filter, I use a tablet, a new layer, a photoshop brush, and an eye dropper tool.

Well share it if you get the chance.
It's very fun to paintover images.

Wha, what a genius idea!
Paintover.. something like make-up for pictures. You're the first artist who showed that process to me Β°^Β°; Aww, thank you very much! What a great work! It IS like magic! xD
and: a wonderful idea! I'm feeling somehow lame now, 'cause I haven't known this technique before D:
(I always thought, working with a photo or some other picture a layer underneath would be some kind of "cheating" - but you show me that it's real art! And fantastic art! Β°OΒ° Praise you!~)

Paintovers are nothing new. Novice artists do them all the time. Take a picture they like, and "recolor" them and claim the work as their own.
So there's a certain level of negative connotation on the topic of paintovers, and tracing. So you don't see them as much. As a lot of people don't consider them to be real art.
But, I like to think that I'm making something better and original. And not just a poor quality rip off of someone else's work. And that it takes at least some skill to successfully mesh my own illustration into a photograph, without the illustration looking out of place and unnatural. XD

Yay! I think so, too!
It's completely different from just tracing a picture! You make it better and more beautiful and you put some really hard work in it.
But you're right, most people think that you're just a thief when you say that you're drawing on a photo. D: Not fair!
But for me it is art. And I like it <3 Und ich will es auch kΓΆnnen! xD

Oh, I think that's very important.
To mention the source makes noone feel like you're trying to hide the fact, that there was an original picture! So everybody is pleased ^w^

Yep, still have to be careful what sources you use. XD
