Before I proceed, I'd like to say one thing...I have mad respect for all the digital artists out there. If not for their talent, it's certainly for their patience. One thing I've learned over and over again when trying to do digital art is that it simply takes lots and lots and lots of time...it can take hours just to draw a teensy weensy part of the whole...which potentially can hardly even be seen at all when the final image is resized down to fit the screen. But yeah, massive respect for all the digital artists out there!

Anyways, along the lines of patience, when I drew this, I don't even know how many times I've just had enough...I mean, the computer crashes (while forgetting to save), accidental mis-painting and alterations with a History Record that doesn't go far back enough to be able to change it (thus causing me to have to reload the image, thus losing all the work leadiing up to that point), choppyness where my computer lagged like crazy (it took 2 minutes just to save the image toward the end), etc. I think what really kept me going was simply the interesting character, my love/obsession with elves, and a need for a matte-style painting in my portfolio. Looking back on it now, thank goodness I didn't stop...hahaha!

I LOVE how the end result. For the amount of effort put into it, I'm really proud of this piece and how it turned out.

I doubt it'll win...but I hope I get into the second round, at least...a few more watchers/fav's couldn't hurt, either!

Anyways, the idea is that she's practicing a new spell/testing her psionic powers in an abandoned tomb/crypt/catacomb...

Standing above the stage, she summons the power of the mightiest of the legendary swords: Gram (black), Caliburn (blue), Durendal (red), Tyrfing (cursed-bone). Held up by unseen threads of mana eminating about her, she draws in the power of these legendary blades...the only lasting legacy of the strongest men to have ever existed throughout time...

Painted in Painter IX. Effects, background done in PSCS2. Total Time = 23.5 hours

Caliburn: Excalibur - King Arthur's sword. Enough said.
Durendal - Sword of Hector of Troy and later, Roland of France.
Tyrfing - Sword cursing the weilder to kill someone each time it was unsheathed.
