Description Being a gay male can be an excrutiatingly lonely lifestyle if you choose to not live life as a stereotype, and this piece represents just that. To break the loneliness and let your walls down you have to be brave enough to expose your heart to others. And when you do that there is always that feeling of your heart teetering on the edge, waiting to find out if you have made the right choice by letting someone in. Are his intentions pure of heart or is he just another shark looking for fresh meat? Only time will tell if you have escaped from the loneliness or if you will have true madness thrust upon you once again.

Great job!

My best friend identifies as gay or bisexual. I think one of the things that stops him from identifying as bisexual all the time is the fact that his personality and mannerisms fit a lot of the stereotypes of gay men, so people have difficulty seeing him as bisexual. A lot of women like to hang out with him as a gay man, and I think they would probably have trouble seeing him as the bisexual man with whom they go shopping instead of the gay man with whom they go shopping. I think that people need to realize that gay doesn't mean "Let's go the mall!"; you can be any sexual orientation and still be yourself.

I included this piece in my gay feature . I hope you like it.

This is absolutely brilliant. It is not every day that you see a piece of art capture a state of mind so well, or maybe we see it all the time but have never personally experienced it to recognize it.

This is one of my favorite deviations EVER.

What you're saying is so honest. Most people don't realize that. I'm glad you're able to get it out in some way, and i'm sorry for how difficult life can be.
This piece is great.

i LOVE this piece... ive seen alot of gay art... but not so much "meaningful" gay art. Most of it is jsut rainbows superimposed on a picture of an animal... or an ass, ... or an animals ass. But this... this is beautiful... Im speachless.

...beautifully laid out and powerful. The interrelation of the elements is seamless, down to the zodiacal glyphs.

The only thing I don't love about this is the title, not because I don't appreciate what's behind it, but because I feel the piece has an archetypal appeal that goes beyond it.

there's probally alot of times when the world wont approve of you to, just stick with what you believe in and just be yourself, best policy, not even sure there should be a policy. just be yourself and dont worry what others think, if i spent half my life worrying what people thought i'd be dead. cause not everyone you ask will agree. nice comment and piece of art. very well done.

...completely valid point, and I respect the artist's decision. I hesitated when I made that comment, but then I thought, no, it's what *I* honestly feel, and that's valid feedback. Coincidentally, I think it deserved a wider audience. ...but I guess it's their loss.

a wider audience is what i want as well, its always a great thing to see creativity in different forms. if someone is subjected to different forms and new lights. and how the world is different. they'll change very fast. im heading up to new york city in a few years. there, there is over 190 different nationalities living there. if you dont think that's a culture shock go there. just a wide range of people make up the world, have to go with the sucker punches and what not and just hang tight until it smooths out i wouldnt worry. take care.

Excellent work!
And i totally agree, that it can be hell to find a guy when you're not really part of the "hit-and-run"-scene. But life does what it wants anyway.
Wishing you and everybody else outthere all the best. Maybe we will meet one day?!

Great collage!

Maybe it's cos I'm an only child and I've been single for a while, but being alone and loneliness are not necessarily the same thing. Finding a good circle of friends always helps

You are certainly not alone in rejecting 'the stereotype'. The numbers of gay men who do reject 'the scene' is extraordinary (ask any counsellor or therapist). Certainly, the meatmarket is less suited to finding Mr Right than Mr Right-Now -- which is okay if that's what you want -- but it's positively grim if you don't like plastic 'divas' and soulless 'doof' beats.

Discrimination makes it much harder for gay folks to find serious relationships where most straight people find them, i.e. at work, where attraction and can blossom into love over time. Unless you work in a particularly gay-friendly industry, the pool of prospective partners is quite small (or closeted).

One option is to get involved in a gay community organisation where you can meet other gay people and do something constructive at the same time.

wow, i really love this
not to stereotype any more, but its just amazing how much of dapride's art is happy. I'm not saying homosexuals or anyone don't deserve to be happy, but i can certainly imagine feeling more angst and hurt than i could happiness. Not that I like to see anyone suffer, but I just generally enjoy this style of art more. I think you did a beautiful job with this, I really dig it. Good job and good luck.

That's really cool, and so true, and it's true, its harder being a gay man than woman. At least that's my observation. I love what the little newspaper clipping thing says, and this is just great, I love the rugged texture, and the colour of the heart

Totally agree with what you said about not living as a stereotype, I can relate to that. And yeah it is lonely, but I've been used so much in the past, I find it hard to let anyone in nowadays. I've got loads of supportive friends, but that's not the same as having someone to love.
