Description Recently I went to my local doctors and asked for a blood test for HIV, hep etc. I have always been 'safe' but you can never be completely safe unless you choose abstinence.

So anyway, the doctor, who was... perhaps in his 60's, just stared at me, raised an eyebrow and then without saying anything, started writing in his note pad. The look he gave me was so judgemental, like I was dirt. He then told me to go to the surgery to have the test and placed the pad face up in the reception.
The receptionist who was, perhaps 50ish looked at the pad, looked me up and down and said, "$40 please." I left for the surgery to get the blood test.

The people in the surgery were fine and to my surprise, the needles didn't hurt at all. All the hurt came way before, from the people who are supposed to care. I have not been treated with such descimination since high school and if really didn't do my self esteem much good. Surely they should encourage people to get tested regularly?

Ok, so, I am not trying to put you off getting tested, just ask your friends, do a little reseach and find a gay friendly doctor.

First and foremost this photo made me literally state, "ow," he's so thin & the needles are so large! Crazy.

Second, how'd the doctor even know you were gay? It's not like they are suppose to ask, and hetero people go in all the time to get tested! Maybe it's because I'm in Chicago and we've got a huge GLBT community, but I've never had that happen...I'm so shocked honestly. It's part of the pride parade to pass out pamphlets and stuff with info on where to go to get tested even, like it's an important factor in the lives of....everyone, or should be.

Whatever, I applaud you for being a responsible adult and getting tested, even though you did have to put up with some major jerkish people. I boo-face that.

wow...that's horrible what happened...
people are unbelievable. all homophobic people should die.
that's one of the reasons I love this website. on a whole, it's homophobe free.
what an amazing deviation, such meaning and depth.
screw the world, there are people on dA that care.

Though oddly beautiful, this is something that has brought me great sadness. To know that people are still this way.....it makes me angry. And when I see those words you put on the syringes, I was in shock and left breathless. Is this the way you feel about yourself? Or what people think of you?
Either way, I have a few things to say: Don't let anybody, ANYBODY bring you down. Ignore those bastards, they're not worth your time. This is what I tell all the people I care about. If someone insults you, don't take it to heart. If people judge you before knowing you, well that's their loss. You sound like a very nice person, and extremely fragile, by the looks of the photo. But just remember, you do have people who care about you, and that's all that really matters, right?

I noticed you have gotten alot of comments on this piece but I need to tell you this image is stamped on my brain now. It is coldly beautiful, cruely truthful, and painfully artistic. I can't describe how influencial this is and the story behind it. I hope the world becomes less judgemental so people dont have problems like that. Wonderful photo.

This really says a lot about a lot of old mind-sets that need to diminish for the sake of common decency.

Funny how it isn't that common...then again, it really isn't funny.

Though I'm not gay, I do have gay friends who I've fought for in verbal battles...even to the point where I've lost "friends" after they showed their true colors about their hateful views.

I'm sorry the inspiration for this piece even happened, but honestly, It's a damn fine piece of work if I do say so. Nice job.

I know what thats like me and my partner when and happened to be taking about are civil partnership and this old woman doctor person wearing a cross refused to treat eaither of us. My partner who has far greater confidence in himself and has never before been bullied for being Gay turned to her and just said, "aren't you people supposed to forgive and love ?" she looked like she was going to cry but people like that deserve it.

The pic is very hard hitting and yet beautiful at the same time well done.

Interesting pic! I like how you labeled the needles into different categories. ...and Damn, that BODY is skinny! LOL...is that you??
Thank you for sharing your story with us,...you made some good points.
I used to work in the Healthcare Industry, and NEVER treated people with disrespect like that. I took great pride in what i did, and (yes, i drew blood for 12 years, too) worked with HIV patients, and people with blood disorders. I found it quite interesting, and am glad to have had the experiences.
I hope this experience didn't leave a bittersweet taste in your mouth, and will not be discouraged from going again when you feel the time is necessary. REMEMBER! This is YOUR BODY , YOUR LIFE, and if you are not concerned with your well-being, nobody else will be either. STAND UP for yourself and your beliefs! YAY!!
Blessed Be, !~
