this is a declassified document from the puritan order.

this has been approved by at least three puritan lords for public information and safety.

-------------------------

true name: Gekkra

other names: merman / water knights / the black deep-ones.

species type: alien + sentient

home world/dimension: [unknown]

population: [classified]

likely locations: any large body of water

nature: the Gekkra are shown to be highly aggressive towards humans and other sentient species that come close to their territories. any and all attempts to communicate with them have failed. because of this, we can assume that the Gekkra's are aggressively xenophobic and territorial, so it is advised that any form of interaction with them should be avoided at all cost.

when a group of Gekkra's claim a territory, they will mark it with carvings and totems around the body of water they claimed. so if you find any weird carvings or totem-like objects that suddenly appear around a large area of water, its your duty to report it to your local government.

the Gekkra's have very human-like intelligence and creativity to build tools, weapons, armour and buildings. they can even form large groups and form complex strategies that allow them to fight off and kill more powerful monsters and enemies. and the Gekkra's also have advance technology, more advanced than even human pre-H-day technology. however, this technology is very rare and they don't seem to be able to replicate them, which is why it is more common to see Gekkra's use human weapon and technology (assuming if their hands are able to use them effectively, and if the weapon/technology is waterproof)

biology: they are a large semi-humanoid organic creature. usually 17 to 23 feet long. and weight is usually 150 to 250 kg. (but some reports say that they can grow even bigger, but so far there are no solid proof of this claim)

Gekkra's skin is very hard and thick just like sharks, making them very durable and almost bulletproof, anything less than high calibre will just annoy them. melee weapons may have a better chance of hurting them, however, it is advised that you do not attack a Gekkra in close combat, especially not in water. even well-trained squire and knights are told to never fight them next to deep waters.

their hands have three fingers with the middle being the longest, and a very long thumb at the lower middle of the hand.

their blood and organs are green, we are not sure as to why they have this unusual colour, but one thing we do know is that it is very toxic for humans to consume, so even if you could kill a Gekkra you should never eat it.

the head and mouth are some of the more weird parts of a Gekkra. the head looks very similar to a southland knight helmet. its mouth does not have upper teeth, instead, its tongue has lots of teeth underneath and the Gekkra will move it around to grind its food.

the Gekkra prefer to live in water, but strangely they don't need to breathe underwater, Gekkra has been seen on dry land for long periods of time without issue, so it is likely the Gekkra only prefer to be underwater, probably because they have the best movement and advantages in it.
the most strange thing about them is that the Gekkra do not have any visible eyes, and yet they can still visually see, they can even react to colours. how they are able to see without eyes is something we do not yet know.

history: the Gekkra first arrive at MO'OR at the terrible event known as H-day, just like every other creature not native in this world. when they first arrive, they were quick to colonizing any large body of water that was not directly claimed by anything (human or other) and were extremely aggressive and killed many unsuspecting humans without warning that was just trying to get past them. and by far they were one of the hardest monsters to get rid of, sometimes an entire legion of soldiers were sent just to get rid of one group of Gekkra's. even the mighty Angel Ex Machinas would think twice about attacking them because the Gekkra are one of the few non-supernatural monsters that could fight and kill an angel.

even in modern times many lakes, rivers, and parts of the ocean are infested with Gekkra's. right now we are far less capable of fully eradicating them, so the best we can do now is to just avoid them. any waterbody infested will be marked and classified as a "danger zone" and any local humans living nearby will be educated about the danger zone and Gekkra's and how to avoid them.

luckily the Gekkra's are not an active threat to our species, we leave them alone and they will leave us alone. the only time Gekkra's become a real problem is when they claim a river that was essential for boats to travel and trade through, but this is rare and usually from a small and new group and is easier to deal with than most others.

so since mermay is a thing now. I made my own mermaid-like creature with my own little twist to it. and I got the inspiration from the design from this weird medieval painting. sta.sh/01qyzcv74s5t
