I find Japanese folklore very inspiring, so here's some of the sketches I did with that theme.Top to bottom, left to right:
Ushi-oni / Gyuuki: Basically a type of Oni or Yokai with a bovine head and the body of other (usually aquatic) animals (crab, octopus, spiders etc.) Did it in my own Oni style, with crooked teeth and the third eye.
Kabuto Helmet: A kabuto with an oni kind of theme. Maybe a tsukumo-gami?
Kara-kasa: A tsukumo-gami yokai (living object), this kara-kasa is a living, slobbering, paper umbrella. It's kinda cute though.
Bura-bura: More or less same concept, but with lanterns. (I actually use these tsukumo-gami as minions for a character of mine that I've never put up on dA.)
Tengu vs Oni: A bit stylised this one. Two of the classic yokai types facing off. I like to pit the two up against each other because it seems like a battle of skill (Tengu) versus brute strength (Oni).
Yes I know, I do a lot of Oni stuff. Can't help myself.
