How was Venice in the winter? Did you manage to do a lot of sightseeing?

It was eerily beautiful at times- andΒ they say there is often water standing in the streets, but although it was foggy for three days there was no rain, and clear and bright the last two. Here, since you ask...sta.sh/21u4kghjvarl?edit=1 (just a few ofΒ the many photos)
Β a lot ? sightseeing- my God, walked out feet off, rather . The trip to Burano (qv) was by boat ; otherwise it was just threading through alleys and over bridges - Β

Tcha! An old married couple like us? And anyway, it's the Bridge of SIGHS...so called because it was the last bridge that the condemned were taken over after being judged, on the way to the prisons.
How romantic! Β

Shoveling snow every fifteen minutes or so. Gotta keep the hotel's stairs clean.

I can imagine...so you have snow heavily enough to shovel? We have yet to see any up here in the hills of Wales, just a light dusting on the higher peaks. Sounds like it would be cozy inside, tho'- do you have open fires there? Do I remember you saying you might have to work New Years? Β

This is our second snowfall, and while the first one barely lasted for two days, this one is the real deal. TBH I don't mind it, because it gives me something to do during the night.
You remembered wrong - I'm NOT working on New Years, for the first time in the 4 years I've been working at the hotel... this is actually my fifth New Year as a receptionist.

That brings back memories...shoveling snow during the night can be an almost mystical experience, as I remember the flakes appearing seemingly out of nothingness and the lights sparkling on the crystals in rainbow colors...pity I'm not in the area, I'd be glad to lend a hand.
Oh, right. Well, sounds like you'll have the right sort of atmosphere to see the Old Year out- any plans?

Hmmm, yes, I can see you now, snowflakes caught in your cascading tresses.....
Something similar, no doubt. I've never been much one for parties and it seems to be getting worse the older I become. What are you- about two hours ahead of GMT? I'll remember to raise a glass of something in salute at the appropriate time. Β

You know how people love to take selfies/edit their profile pictures so that only the upper half of their face is visible? The beard basically does that irl.

True, true... I remember one time in high school I had to sit next to this guy I didn't like (and he didn't like me in turn), and we started talking about something and we were all civil and nice to each other until at one point he mentioned his beard and I was like, 'what beard?' He had some hair on his chin that he was trying to style, but he was so pale and blond, they were totally unnoticeable! He was so offended, and I didn't even mean to!

He didn't really need a beard at the time, his face was pretty enough.Β
