"Averzhon? What are doing here all alone?"

He turned his head to see his mother coming toward him. The tears he had been fighting so hard to maintain suddenly rushed forth and he turned away, his ears drooped as he cried. "I'm no good, aren't I?" he sobbed.

"What are you talking about?" Asura asked with alarm, moving quickly beside him and enfolding him in her soft wings. "Why would you say something like that?"

"I'm not normal. I hurt everypony I go near. I don't mean to."

"I know, love. It's not your fault..." She paused silent as she held him. Pressing her cheek against his lovingly she sighed. "If anypony is to blame, it's me."

Averzhon blinked, shocked. "No it's not!" he denied fervently. "You've never done anything!"

"Perhaps not. But I am your mother. My powers were passed on to you. And they're more dominant in you than your father's, and not evenly balanced like Accord's. So if you need somepony to hate, it's me."

Her son shook his head. "I can't hate you, Mama. I love you!"

She smiled lifting her head. "But you know, I can't say that I'm sorry that my powers are so strong in you." He looked up at her curiously and Asura smiled down at him. "I know it's hard for you. I know it's a struggle everyday when you're around others. But all this, at the end of the day, it makes you and I exactly alike, more than you know. It makes you my son. And I know you'll learn to adapt, because you're mine and I love you."

Slowly a smile began to spread on Averzhon's face, the tears long gone. "Thanks for being my mom."
