Description It's always fun to draw characters with all sorts of wrinkles on their faces.
All the more if that said character resemble Ents from Lord Of The Rings.

Old Groot is a whole lot fatter and a lot more talkative than his current MCU appearance.
I kinda liked both versions hence this here is a hodge-podge of both the new and the old.
And for some odd reason, I unintentionally gave him the notorious "mah boi" pose.

Considering Groot was originally a villain in the 1950's, I find the title cool

Thank you then!
Yeah, Old Groot looks a bit fatter too.
The changes were as glaring as night and day. Even in the earlier issues of the GOTG comics, Groot used to sport this very afro like branches on his head.

It was the movie version that had somehow streamlined and made the design more presentable and an even more lovable character in the process.

Thank you then!
I had fun with this piece.
It's always fun to test out your new found skills or tech.pens upon drawing a character with all sorts of folds and wrinkles on their faces. I would recommend either an old person or any tree like characters. And again, there isn't a right or wrong way of doing this. You are allowed to go nuts with it and I think that's always a good thing most especially when trying something out.

Making the work an experimental learning experience of sorts.

Sure thing!
I hope so too! Been super swamped up with work lately.
But then again, not like that's a bad thing!

Nice linework, and I like the high contrast shading. When I first saw the thumbnail of this, I thought it was Oderus, the singer from GWAR

I agree!
Thumbnail images could be quite deceiving at times.

I'm glad you liked it. This was a fine character to practice my  hatchlines and crosshatches. Lines are usually to be avoided for humanoid characters for it usually add ages to a person's appearance but clearly this character was an exemption to that rule.

He could be saying something else, he could even be cursing people out.

He would be more than liable to do so.
But then again, it would be a bit unlikely since movie Groot does have a personality of child(even in giant form).
Unless he was modled after an ill-mannered child but for him to curse out someone would be a little bit far-fetched.

But he did say "Frikk'n" to Yondu. But then again, Rocket's interpretation could be
quite questionable at best.
