It was less painful than what people say. Everything's less painful when you're sad.

But there you are. Standing by the piano when I open my eyes. You yell at me. Scream until your face is blue but I don't care. I can't see you. Hear you.

I move forward, stumbling in my steps expecting you to keep the same distance away and I'm just running in place like in a cruel nightmare.

But I got closer.

I grabbed your hands.

I let out a sob when you look up at me with those eyes I love so much. I wrap my arms around you. Squeezing you tight, so tight my arms start to ache from the force I'm giving.

You don't mind. You just gently hold me back.

All you said was, "I'm sorry I got sick."

I cried then. Sobbed even. You just stroked my shell and held me close. "Never get sick like that again, never," I pull you up a little so you're toes barely touch the ground. I couldn't breath, just push out in an tiny voice, "never again" over and over.

"I promise." you kissed my temple, pulling back. You wiped the tears from my eyes, both of my good eyes "but you have to promise me you won't do that again. I wanted you to have a full life."

"It's not full without you." I press our foreheads together, gathering your hands into mine. "I need you... I told you. I'll always need you to be happy."

You give your cute light sigh of disapproval but you know it's true now. Besides, I know it's the same for you no matter how strong you can be.

Then...

You kissed the corner of my mouth. "Come on. Let's get settled in," you suggested. "we have a while to wait for our brothers to find us."
