Description Richard Cypher is en route to the Palace of the Prophets when he takes time out to rescue the Baka Ban Mana people. This scene is based on the short-lived (but well loved) television series Legend of the Seeker. The book's version (Stone of Tears) is very different, and in the book RC "marries" Du Chaillu, the Baka Ban Mana's spirit woman.

I never drew a human face until the winter of 2011. I was upset because this show was cancelled and I guess drawing helped me stay connected in a way. For me, this is probably the most sophisticated cross hatching I've done and represents a leap and a lot of hard work. I guess I follow Terry Goodkind's philosophy in his book "Faith of the Fallen."

Thanks KHanami. I should have taken my time with the leather jacket. I need to learn patience. I also think the background was a mistake, but making mistakes is how we learn.

do not despair, find it difficult, not easy to put color and shadows and lights. Every day we discover new things in the drawing! has its share of time and patience, but in the end, their effort makes you successful!

Thanks. You're an awesome artist too. The cool thing is that Legend of the Seeker connected me with a new hobby that I really enjoy and new friends.

Thanks, but I wish I had waited and didn't put a background. I think it takes away from it. Maybe if I have energy at some point I will print out a copy and see if I can do better. I think I should have paced myself over at least two days. Maybe then I would have done a better job on the leather jacket.

Don't feel bad that happens to me too sometimes but the good thing is you are seeing possible places for improvement without totally beating yourself up about it though I still think that it turned out very nice but if you decide to go back and redo it sometime I would love to see the result ;3

I am reading a book called "How to Draw Comics" by Stan Lee and it had a great quote about this. It said that "it is what an artist does wrong that becomes his personal style. If the artist did everything right, it would look like a photograph." This put me in a better frame of mind.

Thanks W.W.W! I had worked so hard on the original drawing three weeks ago that I was afraid to touch it and ruin it. Finally I took the plunge yesterday. The shades of brown in his outfit drove me CRAZY. (Hey dude - maybe he should stop at Sebastian's shop and buy an outfit in a different color?!?) I think I probably should have spent two days coloring instead of trying to complete it in one session. The jacket might have needed more subtle attention (though since this is my first year learning art I am not sure if I could do any better). Should I have left the background white?

Colouring, like everything else, takes practice.
personally, i hate colouring! im really no good at it, thats why i use watercolour pencils (its easyer to blend with them and they leave less lines ect ect.) i think your doing a fine old job! so keep at it

i know it can be discoraging when your disapointed in your own work.... beleive me i know!! if you wanna look at some REALLY pro colouring, cheack this persons gallery! : [link]

this person is CRAZY AWESOME! im sooo blown away every time i see her work

ANYWAY keep it up

I don't know if buying a book on colored pencil drawing would help. I haven't seen any at the local book store. I thought about trying to find a teacher, but I want to learn more on my own first so I will know what questions to ask.

drop a comment in the persons gallery i linked you to! if anyone can help its a pro like her

i dont think there are many (if any) books on colouring.... but im glad your taking it seriously

heres a tip if you want one; shade light, try to avoid making any prominate lines, slowly build up tone by shading over areas you've already shaded over ..... dont know if that will help, but it might be worth a go

Thanks for the link. I will check it out. I know I shouldn't have put so many lines in his jacket, but I don't have experience and was trying my best to create contrasts.
