Description Officially the first pipe I've carved, and what I have been practicing to start doing. (No, I did not make the pipe itself, just did all the sandblasting on it.) It was quite the experience, and a wonderful challenge, that I am looking to keep doing for sure. For the first time carving on something like this, I feel like I did pretty good. There were several surprises that I didn't have to deal with on the practice tubing that I had done before, but I muddled through alright. The only thing I could have done better was to actually go deeper. Beneath the swirling glass there was another color that I could have blasted down to, and had left only the carved parts the swirling color. My struggle with this however was that the covering glass was not even, thicker and thinner in parts, which would have left the carving deeper and more shallow in various areas. The joints of the pieces also made me nervous with that as I did not know how deep the glass was at any point and blasting through to the inside was a major fear of mine. The designs were more or less provided by my my partner, the one doing the actual flame working, Glassmancometh. I stenciled them out completely in Oracle 651 vinyl as my resist, and blasted with 180 grit silicone carbide @~30psi with my pressure pot.

I've got more pipes and pendants to carve up in various styles and techniques to play with and I am sooo excited to continue my journey down this new rabbit hole of glasswork.
