Among the hardest things to critique, these things. The simple. When it comes down to it I see three different types of artwork on dA: the good, the bad, and the simple. Now, simple is hard to critique because they're always on the fence between good and bad. The simply bad are the ones lacking effort or vision. The simply good posses the effort and vision and thus posses quality. They just don't make it to favorites lists or are revisited often. This is simply good.
A nicer way to classify this one would be....classic. Being a classic idea, I can't give you to much credit for originality. While the design is nice, and the technique with the shading and colors work, it lacks that hook. The charm and that grabs the audience's attention. That is the one and only complaint I have with this one, it's simply good. That being said, it excels at what it is; simply good. Probably the best example of the simply good I have seen.

Thanks! That's good to hear, since my goal right now in art is largely to get good at simple, somewhat uninspired things. To be able to make something that looks cool and has a feeling, but doesn't have to be amazingly well thought-out. Don't get me wrong, I'm not ditching well thought-out things, I just want to be able to make simpler things in between. So it's good to hear that I succeeded at that goal, even if it might not be quite what you were expecting.Β

I like this one. Β You're really good at making her look pretty and charming in all of your works. Β I like the "simple" as much as I like your complex pieces. Your gallery is quite the adventure seeing as every piece tells a story of its own, and it's quite fun witnessing how well you improve piece by piece. Β I've always wanted to continue drawing but I'm a lazy hobo. Β

Thank you! Pretty and charming is definitely my aim. And I agree, it is fun going back and seeing the evolution... I really dislike it when artists will delete all their old works and everything. I love to go back and cringe at myself.

And hey, happens to many of us, thankfully. And those are good moments.
Remember how you did the corner of her muzzle here, with that white outline, it's a nice trick. and the multitone shading on her neck is definitely acceptable. Same goes for the front of her mane and the headphones. Nice job!
