Thank you
Reverse lens is when you take a telephoto lens and mount it normally on the camera , and then get another lens and screw it on the end of the telephoto lens facing the other way , so if you like the two lenses are pointing at each other, thus you get a magnification of 6:1

leonsnowy In reply to darkHunTer2009 [2012-08-30 12:24:15 +0000 UTC]

woah thats amazing!! well done!! how do you mount the 2 lenses together?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

darkHunTer2009 In reply to leonsnowy [2012-08-30 12:25:45 +0000 UTC]

Well you can buy reverse mounts but what I did is I bought 2 step down rings for the lens filter thread and made sure they both stepped down to the same size and then just taped them together I have a photo of a set up for one of my recent shots and I use a reversed lens if you would like to have a look ?

Oh I wish !

but thank you for thinking so ! This photo was taken by luck... I was walking back from shooting a building in thick fog ... as I walked out of the door ... i spotted this fly on the wall and it was frozen ... after a couple of flashes it came back to life and started moving up the wall haha.

Photography is about 50% skill and 50% being in the right place at the right time (depending on what you are shooting). There was definitely skill involved, don't sell yourself short.

I agree with this so much!

In all fairness it was soo hard taking this show , I didn't use a macro lens , I used a makeshift reverse lens!

But thank you ! very kind words !

Bloody beautiful shot

I need to ask you, when using the reverse lens way...what focal length lenses did you use & how close did you need to get to the fly to focus?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

darkHunTer2009 In reply to yatesmon [2011-11-12 23:11:17 +0000 UTC]

Wow! thank you

I set the 70-300 to Infinite and the 50 mm to infinity and then just moved closer or further away for focusing
I would say about 8-12 cm away from the fly .. it wasn't a set up shot ... I was just walking past a wall while doing a shoot in the fog ... and noticed a very still fly on the wall .. luckly for me i had both lenses with me

Cool shot mate,I asked for your knowledge, because, I've got extension tubes & shit do I need to get in close lol...I was going down the reverse route, but then I saw some tubes & got them....

I'm a believer in magic and stuff that logically cannot exist. And this is it - this is incredibly magical. This is a thing that I can't explain, at least not the way I'd like to. Your talent and your persistence to get an amazing photograph is beyond this world !
