What is your novel about?

I'm looking for a more vast and open region of grassy plains with less mountains and preferably a chasm with or without a river. Is there anything like that too?
It's a fictional story about a young man named Ricky who has an Irish background - people have told me he looks Dublin - and he's been dreaming of taking a trip to Ireland before he leaves the world. It starts in his life when he's fifteen in high school in Colorado, going to Eerie High for his sophomore year; before this, he and his parents had lived in South Dakota and moved for job opportunities.
On his 18th birthday, he proposes to his girlfriend and she says yes, already making him the happiest he could be, but then he discovers that his parents bought him a ticket to Ireland since he'd always done his best to be a good kid, not just in school or at home, but also naturally as a person.
They paid for a month-long trip over the summer before he goes to college to live his dream, and for the entire first week, he enjoys the scenery and never forgets to send his pictures and videos to the rest of his family back home every evening. One day he learns about an empty region and decides to explore it, hearing rumors all over about ancient ruins.
He finds out that the rumors were true once he sees the ancient black castle for himself in that empty landscape.
He spends a few minutes inside, taking pictures and listening to Orinoco Flow on his Ipod Nano, before his curiousity takes him inside the center of the site - the grand hallway where the King's Throne still stands. Inside, he discovers something that no one had ever seen before, and it turns out to be the one thing that changes his life forever...
The rest is for me to write about and for many future readers to discover.
