Description Had a lot of fun designing this one. The two side pieces of this structure were parts of an un-released picture, and the center piece is a part of a still work-in-progress picture, so you'll see that again for sure.

So, this is a quick test of my new CPU, to benchmark how it would work. Also trying out a Physical atmosphere for a change, which put down some interesting effects into the model work.

Overall I'm excessively happy with this piece, especially considering it was just me messing about with my new toy. Thanks for looking!

Halo is probably my #1, with Mass Effect and Zelda tied for third. Zelda's just not been too great recently. I have high hopes for Skyward Sword (still haven't got round to playing it.)

Yeah, still very little details on it. But when they announced it last E3, I almost crapped myself. I didn't expect it until at least 2013.

Inorite? Everybody's super paranoid about 343i doing it and not Bungie, but I see so many Bungie names in 343 now, I think they'll do just fine. And I'm very curious to see where they take the story.

I remember one of the theories was that the planet shown in the ending of 3 and trailer for 4 was Onyx, which there was a book on. Now, Onyx has some surviving Spartan II's training Spartan III's, as well as Forerunner technology, like these weird sentinel like robots, that, if I remember correctly, would combine to make a bigger robot. That book was actually where the quote "Spartans never die" came from, I believe.

But yeah, 343 should do a good job, they've got people from Bungie, Retro, and a whole other bunch of people from all sorts of talented developers working on it, so it should at least be good, right?

Hard to say. They already fired one creative director because he wanted to change too much, so I say that's a good sign. I think Microsoft knows they have a good thing going, and not to fuck with it.

The Covenant isn't entirely gone, remember. They were split in half between separatists and loyalists. Just because the prophets are dead doesn't mean there isn't a fleet out there looking for revenge.

You never know. The Covies were always after more forerunner tech. What better place to look than a giant forerunner sphere in the middle of no and where?

UseTheBrakes In reply to DarklordIIID [2012-03-25 21:48:24 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, true. Apparently, a lot of their technology was based off the Forerunners. But still, it would be mostly brutes, who if you ask me, aren't as fun to fight as Elites.

DarklordIIID In reply to UseTheBrakes [2012-03-25 21:58:18 +0000 UTC]

True. Of course that assumes that there won't be the Flood, which makes more sense, IMO.

What they gain in abilities they lose in strength; well placed shotgun blast, even on Legendary, will drop a standard flood form.

Also, this .

UseTheBrakes In reply to DarklordIIID [2012-03-28 00:52:32 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I wanted to fight those fuckers! I hope that if they bring the Flood back, the Juggernauts appear too. But...were they coded into Halo 3? Cause that was Halo 2...

Also, I heard that one of the scrapped Covenant species was some sort of doberman gator. Like, an alligator with dog legs or something. But I don't know what to believe.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarklordIIID In reply to UseTheBrakes [2012-03-28 01:44:31 +0000 UTC]

I don't believe so, but I never got much into the Halo modding community so I can't say for sure. I believe they were cut from 2, and never had a place at all in 3, since they added the pureforms.

Sounds familiar.

UseTheBrakes In reply to DarklordIIID [2012-03-29 01:32:42 +0000 UTC]

But then, looking at them, they would've made the game a shit ton harder, probably. I mean, unless they took out the rest of the Flood in the areas you fought them, and that wouldn't make too much sense. It would be cool if they showed up in the inevitable Halo 2 remake.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarklordIIID In reply to UseTheBrakes [2012-03-29 13:00:32 +0000 UTC]

It would probably be a sub-boss type enemy, where you would fight one or two in a somewhat clear area. I think though that the juggernaut really doesn't fit well with the other flood-ians you encounter in Halo 2, as it hasn't had the time yet to "evolve" into it's pure forms that you see in Halo 3. You could argue that the juggernaut was refined into the Brute for H3.

Also, Halo 2 remake....homina.

But yeah, that makes sense. Wait, are you implying that Flood evolve like Pokemon? That NEEDS to be in the next game!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarklordIIID In reply to UseTheBrakes [2012-03-30 02:05:50 +0000 UTC]

Maybe evolve is the wrong word. Mature? Obviously they have different levels of development, with the basic infection forms, then carrier forms, then pure forms, then the base-type constructions seen in Halo Wars, then a full Gravemind.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

UseTheBrakes In reply to DarklordIIID [2012-03-30 21:33:28 +0000 UTC]

Never played Wars. I remember the pure forms in 3, though. And I think I said this before, but I wish you fought the Gravemind at the end of Halo 3.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarklordIIID In reply to UseTheBrakes [2012-03-31 00:52:45 +0000 UTC]

Eh, Halo has never really had "boss fights" so a Gravemind fight would be an odd fit. Plus, defeating the Gravemind (if possible) is non-productive, the flood are just as much a threat without it, and they'd likely just build another one immediately anyway.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

UseTheBrakes In reply to DarklordIIID [2012-03-31 01:06:03 +0000 UTC]

Well, a few bosses. Yeah, the Heretic leader was basically just a jetpack elite with 2 clones, but the Prophet of Regret was sorta a boss, despite being a cakewalk without the shit ton of honor guards. And of course, Tartarus. 343 was sorta easy too, though, but you could consider him a boss. I also consider Hunters and gold elites minibosses, as well as chieftain brutes. Eh, not very good bosses, mostly, but still bosses. I still think the only FPS I played that did bosses right was the Metroid Prime series. And I will admit, getting revenge on that blue sphere of death was satisfying. But I still wonder how a Gravemind fight would go, even if it isn't productive.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarklordIIID In reply to UseTheBrakes [2012-03-31 01:54:51 +0000 UTC]

None of those are even close to a Gravemind in terms of difficulty though. That would be a well and true boss fight, and, unlike something comparable like a Scarab in Halo 3, it has no obvious weak points.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

UseTheBrakes In reply to DarklordIIID [2012-03-31 01:57:32 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I wonder how you would even fight a Gravemind...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarklordIIID In reply to UseTheBrakes [2012-03-31 02:01:23 +0000 UTC]

It would likely be difficult. It's just a ton of flood forms joined together into a new mass that then gains sentience, so it's likely a situation where even if you cut off a tentacle or something, it wouldn't affect the Gravemind itself. Other than piss it off.
