Amaterasu Omikami or "The great August Kami who shines in the Heaven" is a prime Shinto Deity and one of the few Demi-Gods of the Sun on Urth. When Odin lost his eye in a deadly battle against Ra, Ra used the eye and created a young girl to represent the power of the second sun. She was set to be a servitor of him and the angels. She is the goddess of the Sun, Love, Happiness, Family, Good, and Fire.

She began her duties as told, but quickly proved to be rather unruly. Though she had a rather tough and tom boyish personality along with a rather comical perverted streak, she also loved to help those in need and shined light on areas of the world that had never seen it before. This is how she met Tsukuyomi.

According to the usual scriptures and stories, Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi are brother and sister, however in all actuality their closeness was simply perceived as sibling rivalry when in all actuality they were lovers.

From her kindness and strange, outgoing attitude, Tsukuyomi fell in love with the girl and eventually proposed to her.

Ra would not allow this and believed that the union of the Sun and the moon would one day unite all of the Demi Gods together, even those whom he deems unequal, and as such he locked Amaterasu in a cage and sealed her in the center of the smaller sun from which she had gained her power. And as punishment he cut off Tsukuyomi's Right arm.

Tsukuyomi did everything he could to win his girl back and even made his way through an army of angels to reach Amaterasu in the center of the sun. She had waited for him for hundreds of years, never wavering in her love, but when he arrived her father struck him down and destroyed his body completely.

Amaterasu is said to be stuck in a small cage oftentimes held by her father or in his realm in Heaven. Tsukuyomi can never quite reach her now because of his destroyed body. Amaterasu holds a staff known as "The Balance". With this she can gain small control over many other elements that she otherwise does not have access to. She can fire off thousands of scorching hot rays of sunlight, blind her enemies and she can fly around on a rather squishy orb of light that burns anyone she deems unworthy. her most powerful attack is said to be a blast of sunlight from her eyes.

She is rather close to the God Oowatatsumi and a depiction of him (Minus Ryuujin) is on her Kimono.

Amaterasu's design and personality were based on another character of mine whom you have not met yet but will one day see for sure. His name is Okibi Tenma and he is one of the main characters in my Ninja Dungeons and Dragons campaign.
