I don't think that works, anatomically speaking.

Shippuden23 In reply to GenVolkov [2011-01-11 06:20:47 +0000 UTC]
Well, he canβt have perfect human anatomy because heβs not completely human or perfect canine anatomy because heβs not completely canine so it had to be a mixture of both and I think it works perfectly.
Why do you say that?
π: 0 β©: 1
GenVolkov In reply to Shippuden23 [2011-01-11 20:30:00 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I realize that he can't be fully both. But the mix is off. He has canine shoulders with a human shoulder joint. Real canines can't bend their arms out the way he is. They just don't connect the same way ours do. Also, he has abs for no discernible reason. The abdominal muscles in a human are there for balance. Your wolf would have massive issues walking in a bipedal fashion. His hips and legs are that of a quadrupedal animal.

I guess but youβre right.
People often do stuff like this when drawing anthropomorphic animals. I guess it really doesnβt matter much since itβs a fantasy drawing and anything is possible.

I know people often do stuff like this, but that doesn't make it any less annoying. Good artists have an appreciation for anatomy and physiology.

Shippuden23 In reply to GenVolkov [2011-01-14 00:50:46 +0000 UTC]
Yeah but of course you are just expressing your personal opinion. You find it annoying but other people like it. It may not be βlogicalβ but that doesnβt really make her less of an artist.
Fantasy is about creating objects and creatures that donβt exist in real life such as dragons, fairies or werewolves. In other words is mostly about escaping reality and even logic (after all thatβs the whole point of βfantasyβ). Most of the beautiful art we see here on DA wouldnβt even exist if everyone just kept following logic which often limits your creativity.
By the ways, I am not being rude; Iβm just expressing my opinion just like you were.
Anyways, thatβs all I have to say in the matter. I enjoyed our conversation and I hope you didnβt take any of it the wrong way.

Way I see it, even fantasy drawings represent creatures in a realistic way. They maybe fantastical creatures, but they are still drawn in a logically consistent way. I still think a basic use and application of anatomy and physiology will help any artist, no matter what type of drawing it is.

What an interesting idea, having an animal pose like a human. Nice originality. Your pull it off really well.

Wow! This is a great rendering showing truly "plausible" Anthropomorphism. I particularly like the positioning of the forelimbs, allowing the viewer to βguessβ as to whether or not he has actual βthumbsβ.
While Iβd prefer a bit more mass to the upper βarmsβ consistent with the mostly canid form, this in no way diminishes the impact of the piece nor my appreciation.
He does also remind favorably of Richard Corbinβs βRowlfβ series.
Again, excellent work. Bravo!
