Description This is the Cherryedge Town Gym. It has taken me a while to finish it because halfway through it didn't look right and I had to change some stuff on it. Plus it took me a little bit to make the right color palette but here it is. The upper floor is the Fighting Dojo and the bottom floor is the Fighting-Type gym. There will be a small space once you enter to either go up the stairs to train or go through a door to go for the gym badge.

Not for public use.

No. I don't use ms paint. I use a free program called Paint.Net. Pretty much it's like a free version of photoshop, you can get all kinds of plugins and with the right plugins you can even import photoshop files and brushes.

Can you explain how you did this, im also interested in your 3d work

Darkness2118 In reply to Perplex123 [2013-04-05 13:36:23 +0000 UTC]

Well it's harder to explain.. Mostly what I did was that I googled samurai houses and temples in the google image search, found some that was of good reference, downloaded some different pokemon tilesets from here on DA, studied them by zooming in on them and looking at the way the colors and textures were, then after a little while of study I started the gym. It took me 4 to 6 hours total to make it because half of the palette on the tile is a custom palette plus the only thing not made from scratch is the door but I still modified the door as well to make it match the gym exterior better. I know it's a long explanation but you asked. Also the 3d work took me a few years to perfect my skills. I'm still learning new techniques and still practicing. The only thing I could tell you as far as the 3d work goes is to get a good modeling program (which blender is a good, free open-source modeling program) and study and practice.

Yeah. Actually it's 2 games Pokemon Titanium and Pokemon Chromium. Been working on it off and on for the past 2 years but I really started working on it harder within the past year.

I'm starting up an anime believe it or not, and my team and I are thinking about making a game too. But spriters are hard to come by

Darkness2118 In reply to Perplex123 [2013-04-05 14:34:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. That's why I learned to sprite early on in the development of my game. I've gotten a lot better since I first started spriting.

They loook good and you're probably the only person I know who does 3D stuff

Darkness2118 In reply to Perplex123 [2013-04-05 14:58:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah.. I'm about the only person I know that is working on a pokemon fan game and putting 3d art or 3d models in their games. There is maybe a select few others that does 3d stuff as well but most of them bailed on their games.

Theres an Emerald version remake that is in 3D in the works

Darkness2118 In reply to Perplex123 [2013-04-05 15:04:30 +0000 UTC]

Yeah that's what I mean by a select few. There was a 3d Sapphire and Ruby remake that was being made with RPG Maker XP. It was coming along fairly well but it just became another dropped project. Some people just give up and some people keep trying to push. I might be going at a slow pace with updates of my game but I'm a perfectionist and I don't really like uploading things that I don't think is good enough until I finish the final small touches.

Yeah. There is a site called pokecommunity.com and it has a variety of forums but there is one specific section I mostly go to and that's the Game Development section. In that section there is two places to put progressing games and both threads are filled back with dead games. I admit one of the game threads is mine but it was from when I first started it and I got a little overzealous and posted a thread before most of the the storyline, maps, or sprites were even done. I've gotten a lot done since then though.

Yeah. But It can still be a bit hard unless you have some experience in animation.

Thank you and the way I made it was extensive study of different tile styles. Most of my tiles are based on a deviantart member that has really been around for a while named BoomXBig. It took me a while to figure out a good style for the tiles in my game.
