To be honest, I think you are psychologically correct. We have stronger desire for that which is, at least partially, kept from us. And this has broad implications, even down to things like how "absence makes the heart grow fonder" of people you haven't seen in ages. In this case, the core principle applies to us being left to "use the imagination" and I think it arguably works better.
