Part 2 of 2 in the year celebrations of sonicInspired by 's "Colouring & Creativity Contest" [link]
I was originally going to enter most of the characters you see here were apart of the orignal idea using the provided image (see link) however I had started the idea too late as by the deadline I had an artist block on the background therefore missing the deadline.
Eventually got back around to finishing it as I didn't want to waste what I had created and so this came about. I 've tried to reference as many sonic games (that i've played) as possible with a few other mediums thrown in for good measure.
I know there are characters missing but I dropped them due to either not playing the game they appear in or couldn't think of a way to implement them into the picture so apologies if your favourite isn't here.
Feedback on how I can improve would be very much appreciated.

I'll admit I was a tad disappointed that we didn't get to see more 'classic' iterations for Amy and Knuckles (or even some what-ifs when it came to newer characters like Shadow and Blaze) but the game itself still had tons of throwbacks to the classic era anyway, and that was good enough for me.

I really can't say on what could be improved honestly. It looks VERY good and it's obvious you spent time on this to make it look nice. Warning: I have quite a bit to say, so just saying this could be a lengthy comment (This would be a critique if that option was available)
The placement of the characters is cool, like with Classic Sonic sitting on Modern Sonic's head enjoying the sights, almost treating him like an older brother (not too far from the truth I suppose). The look on Amy's face (both of them) is PRICELESS. It caters back to the cartoony charm that makes Sonic so special. And the way you portrayed both versions of Tails is quite cool as well. The way classic Tails is messing with that controller with a big smile on his face just makes me think of a little kid playing with his new toy while Modern Tails is looking at him with a proud smile on his face, as if thinking "Yeah...good times." And the way Knuckles is portrayed is a lot like how I see him then and now. Back then (Classic Knuckles in the back) was so serious and dutiful; not really the life of the party. Knuckles nowadays is still very serious, but as seen here, he's mellowed out a little bit and has learned to relax more than he used to. Not much to say about the other characters, except for it's nice to see the villains either shaking their fist at their rival (Modern Metal Sonic coming up from the sewer) to working on...some weird machine thing (classic Robotnik on top of the building).
Then there are just some little tidbits here that just add SO much more to this picture, making me feel as if I'm looking through a window into Sonic's world. Here's all that I see...
-E-123rd Street: As a reference to E-123 Omega. Very nice
-Street sign that leads to Metropolis and Stations Square: Two worlds from two different eras. Metropolis from Sonic 2 (I think...and I love to hate that level) and Station Square in Sonic Adventure.
Those Birds: I see three flickies flying above the "happy birthday" sign. If I'm not mistaking, those are the three flickies from Sonic Adventure. Yeah, the bird that fell on Amy's head, and then the two birds that were inside Gamma and Beta I believe.
Shadow's cameo: I like how Shadow's face is on some kind of cola can. That's creative.
Chaotix Cafe: I know the plane is obstructing part of the view, but I'm willing to bet that sign on the building reads "Chaotix Cafe". Even though they are detectives, I think back to an episode of Sonic X where they did open up a small cafe in order to make ends meet for repairs on their ship in Season 3. Not sure if that's what gave you the idea, but I just find it a nice touch.
The Menu: Yes, I looked that close. I see reference to other Sonic characters with their names listed on different food. Blazin Burgers (Blaze the Cat), Big Surprise (Big the Cat), Cream Cheese Cake (Cream the Rabbit), and Rouge Cherry Pie (Rouge the Bat). Plus, I like how you mention Chili Dogs on that menu; Sonic's favorite food. No wonder he and his past self are here. ^_^
Psychic Time Traveler: That sign on the window that I swear is a reference to Silver the Hedgehog. That made me laugh.
Wanted Poster: But this one made me laugh even more. A "Wanted" poster featuring Fang, Bark, and Bean; all appearing in Sonic the Fighters and all a bit of a pain in the ass.
Chao in Space: Didn't we see something similar to that in Sonic Adventure?
All in all, this is a MIGHTY fine piece of work here. A very creative, inventive, colorful, and fitting tribute to Sonic the Hedgehog. Sorry if this went on for a bit too long, but I just had to get my thoughts out in the open. Now since I can't officially critique this, I'll just give you the basic rating out of 10. I don't often give this score, but you deserve it. With the colors, lively and cartoony atmosphere, and all those little nods to other things in Sonic's world...I give you a perfect 10/10!

well done for finding a majoirty of the easter eggs theres about 4-5 you've not written about but I'll mention one of them as its kinda vague
The cafe uses a colours from all the chaotix including Mighty and Ray plus charmy's little bee badge is on all the tables

Okay yeah. That color scheme one I would never have guessed. And I did see the bee symbols on the table...I just forgot to mention them in my review. ^_^
But wait...there are MORE?! Okay, well I'll go out on a limb here and point out a few I did notice and were so painfully obvious that I didn't think they were worth mentioning. But here goes:
Angel Island: Up in the background. That's another relic of Sonic's world that just never goes away.
Tails Doll: A reference from Sonic R of course. And it is piloting the Tornado. But it kinda looks like Classic Tails is controlling it with his remote. Ah...kids and their toys.
EGG-man: Is Dr. Robotnik loading eggs into that cannon thing that Dr. Eggman is controlling? I guess that would have to be a joke on his name; EGGMAN.
Anyway, that's all I have to say. That is all I can see. Regardless if I missed a few, tis still nice and even more deserving of my 10/10 if you went that far into details.

Unlike the other classic forms there are very subtle differences.(if you need reference images there are some links in one of the replys near the bottom of this page)
If you compare the Sonic CD Artwork and the the more recent design (Sonic channel, the olympic series) older (classic) metal sonic has a much more basic design and has rounder eyes whereas Modern has a more complex design (more detail in arms, jet and legs and has the more cylinder-like eyes that most of the other characters have.
Bare in mind I made this before Generations came out hence why Classic doesn't look like he did in that game, so I only had the Sonic CD Design as reference.
I like to think that because of that choice Classic is the more loyal as in Sonic CD he is under Robotnik's control while Modern in this picture is based on the more renegade Sonic Heroes personality I just chose to draw the Sonic Channel/Oympic Series design instead of Neo Metal Sonic.
