Description The squeaking of shoes stopped suddenly as the door of the gymnasium slid open, the cool air from outside coming in as you leaned against the post to take off your outdoor shoes. “Sorry for interrupting.” You said, bowing to the coach and managers. The girls smiled softly, already used to your presence  from time to time. The coach furrowed his brows before he was interrupted by the captain himself.

“You came!” Confusion was clearly written on your face as you looked at the boy jogging up at you after you had finally gotten rid of your shoes.

“I thought we talked about that?”

“She actually came? Ehh?” Some of the players whispered to each other, a bit too shocked at your arrival after the nagging of their captain. You, however, were too busy with pushing the captain back on the court. ‘Oh god.. those back muscles. Please, don’t blush, don’t blush.’ “Someone is embarrassed.” ‘Too late.’ As you were waved over to the girls, Bokuto almost fell on his butt when your pressure left his back, seeing your own retreating back as you said ‘sorry’ for the disturbance again and again. His stare burned holes in your being, the golden eyes mapping your whole form for his mind to remember. A smile was quickly brought to his face as he watched you interact with the managers, your fingers brushing back some fallen hair from your visage. His own fingers pushed back some fallen bangs, repairing the two tuffs of hair standing high in the air. He was pulled out of his musings by a harsh slap on his shoulder. “Get back in there.”

“Ha-hai..” His golden eyes trailed over to your form once more before the muscled body moved back to the court, his fingers itching to send some balls over the net for you to see. “Coming!”

He thought he could fly. The balls kept coming to him in the 3-vs-3 before he spiked them down on the other side of the net, cheering himself on, before his gaze swept over to your sitting form, watching how your hands clapped together in amazement. His grin split his face as he send a thumbs up back before he was hit with a ball in the gut. “Oof.”

“Keep your head in the game already.” Bokuto heard Akaashi mutter before he heard you ask if he was okay from the side lines. “He’s fine.” Akaashi said instead of the older boy, sending a glare to Bokuto as well. So rude. A chuckle escaped your lips as you smiled softly at them, before turning back to her conversation with Shirofuku Yukie, who sounded tired no matter how much her eyes glistened in interest.

In between the sounds Bokuto was used to hearing in the gym, he suddenly picked up the sound of a violin and you rushing out of the building with your phone clutched to your ear just as the coach whistled for a break. He didn’t know why, but the male ran after you, ignoring the calling of his teammates. Outside the male noticed you were simply sitting against the concrete of the building, your voice hushed as your brows furrowed. Your face was turning as white as a sheet the more you spoke with the person before you noticed the male looking at you. Bokuto got a small wave from you and a strained smile before you ushered him back inside. ‘It’s fine.’ His eyes squinted at her before the male complied. “He still shouldn’t.” Bokuto’s own brows furrowed upon hearing you say that. Something in the tone simply told him you were upset about whatever that happened and he didn’t like it. He grabbed the water bottle from Yukie’s hand and chugged down its contents, all the while straining his ears for your entrance.

Only after they started playing again, did Bokuto hear the sound of soft padding feet on the floor once more and his heart started to race before it calmed right down. A ball hit his arms as he blocked an attack, bouncing the inflated leather to the very back with a high speed, where you were walking. He looked back, his lips moving to tell you to watch out before he noticed you had stopped the ball with one hand, the other still holding the phone in a tight grip. With a swift movement, the ball was up in the air and coming towards Akaashi in a nice arch from the very back you stood. With that same throw, Bokuto hit the ball hard over the net back towards the libero on the other side, who could only touch it shortly before it bounced off to the side. As you sat back down, the captain noticed you were suddenly more stiff than before.

*~*~*~

“Are you walking with us?” Akaashi asked you as the whole team had finished cleaning up, you pitching in as well for as much you possibly could. An apologetic look crossed your face as you had to decline, telling him your little brother was going to come by and pick you up. At the mention of your little brother, you whole demeanour appeared rigid. Akaashi’s eyes looked you up and down as Bokuto appeared next to him, trying to gain his attention. “Will you be alright?”

“I have to, don’t I?” Your answer was something expected by the setter, the anxiousness coming with it too obvious to miss, even for the captain. Just as you had said that, someone yelled your name, the person standing in the doorway with a menacing stare. Bokuto stood between you and the boy on instinct, your hand quick to grab his shoulder to stop him from doing so. It would make everything worse when others stood up for you anyway. “I’ll see you tomorrow. Have a good night.” You said to both of them, bowing shortly before grabbing your bag and jogging out of the building.

Both pairs of eyes watched you leave, shoulders hunched over as the male made comments on you, your face turned away. “Who is he?”

“(l/n)-san’s adoptive brother.”

“Ehh! How could her parents adopt such a bully?”

“Oh, he isn’t adopted. She is.” Akaashi said before walking off with his phone in hand, tapping away on the screen, his legs taking him to the changing rooms. Bokuto stared off in the distance with a frown on his face, almost as if he was watching you leave once more while you were long out of sight. With a sigh he jogged after Akaashi, yelling his name for him to wait up.
