Chapter 4: Brother and Sister.

Previously on The Shrine of Dzīve: Knuckles and Amy were on there way to the Lethal Radioactive Zone, after hearing a strange call from the zone itself. On the way, Amy and Knuckles got separated by the Tornado X crashing into a huge canister of radioactive waste. The plane came crashing down and Amy and Knuckles went flying different ways. Knuckles woke up and saw a strange note in a different room, he picked it up and placed it into his bag in shock and then jumped into a hole leading into nothing but darkness…

Knuckles fell down the hole, as fast as the speed of light, or so it felt. Knuckles couldn’t see anything, and he fell onto the ground at the bottom of the huge pit. There was no way he could see.

Until, a huge blinding light developed beneath his feet. He stood back to see the light develop all around a huge circular platform. He was standing on a huge machine lying underneath the Lethal Radioactive Zone! He saw that on the machine there was a huge symbol of an object that looked like a chaos emerald but it didn’t look quite the same.

Knuckles found a small door on the machine, without hesitation he walked through it. It suddenly turned freezing cold, the machine began to act for itself, moving and turning. Knuckles had to dodge a few wires and electrical beams until he reached a small door. He thought he heard moaning from behind the door.

“Who’s in there?” Knuckles cried, trying to look through a window on the top of the door, but it was too high up…

A small voice could be heard from inside the door, “Knuckles? Is that you?” Knuckles shrieked, whoever was behind that door knew his name, the voice sounded pale too, it seemed familiar to Knuckles, it was a girl’s voice.

Knuckles tried to open the door but it wouldn’t budge, “who are you two?” Knuckles asked wile he punched the door constantly, it dinted it but not enough to go through.

“You can’t remember us Knuckles? Can’t you tell by our voices?” Another voice sounded now, it was a boy now. Knuckles didn’t enjoy waiting until they told him, so he stood back and unleashed his full force on the door, breaking it off the hinges.

He saw two hedgehogs sat down in the corner of the room. One was green and the other was pink, Knuckles new exactly who they were, Manic and Sonia, Sonic’s brother and sister.

“Manic? Sonia?” Knuckles said, shocked to see them in such a cold, dull place. “What are you doing here?”

“Knuckles, I’m so glad to see you; Mobius is in danger.” Sonia cried, running up to Knuckles, “We need our brother Sonic, where is he? Isn’t he with you.” Knuckles turned around, he knew that they haven’t heard the news yet…

He turned back around and looked at Sonic’s brother and sister with a frown, “Sonic’s… Not here, he’s on a mission somewhere.” Knuckles lied, unable to break their hearts, Knuckles shouldn’t have lied though, and normally he wouldn’t have but something possessed him to do so.

Knuckles slapped his head, “Sonic is on a mission, at the complete wrong time; Eggman is after a gem of some sort, me and my sis tried to stop him but he caught us and trapped us in here.” Manic signed, rubbing his head, “never before have I been so carless in my life.”

“A Gem of Chaos, Tails must be down here somewhere, Sonia, Manic, we should get going. Come along.” Knuckles said, walking through the hole in the wall where the door used to be.

Sonia looked confused, “Tails is here too? Well we had better find him.” Sonia walked through the hole followed by Manic and together they walked through the cold hallway into a large room. They never talked the whole way down. The room was huge too, on the other side of a huge bridge that was hovering over a huge canyon that looked bottomless, was a huge Alter that looked just like the Alter of Collision back in Dimetio.

“What is that thing?” Asked Manic, “It looks like it has some pretty damn good valuables hidden.” Manic’s eyes were glittering with happiness; Sonia knew what he was thinking.

“Don’t bother stealing from it Manic.” Sonia cried, hitting Manic on the back of the head.

Knuckles took a closer look at the alter; it had a huge moon like crystal above it glowing down on a gem floating above a shrine, a blue gem. It looked like a Chaos Emerald too; it was clear to Knuckles what it was, it was a Gem of Chaos that he wanted so much. Lying next to the shrine was a figure; Knuckles thought the figure looked incredibly familiar.

Knuckles looked at the bridge, it didn’t look stable and he took a look at the figure again. He had to help the figure; it looked badly hurt or even worse. Knuckles stood on the bridge, Manic and Sonia were still fighting about nothing, Knuckles decided not to bother them.

As he got across the bridge, it shook violently, the rope didn’t look like it could last. Knuckles turned around, it looked like it could snap any second! Knuckles braced himself for a fall as he could tell it would snap any second. And with a huge crack he began to fall down the pit.

“Knuckles!” Manic and Sonia cried as Knuckles fell down the seemingly bottomless pit…
