you need to go under the SURFACES tab click on the skin and then click on the ADVANCE tab and go down to GENERAL and pick Skin default is Plastic....i just learned this a couple of days ago myself.

I'm using Poser 7, I had to go into material room and change the alternate specular. Same thing though. Daz must know a lot of plastic people...
