This is an acrylic painting done on a 5"x 7" wooden plaque without photoshop or digital editing. I would classify this as a craft-art image... something perhaps not of fine art quality, but done for fun. I am not sure people anymore in this digital age can relate to the difference between painting a large picture with detail verses a tiny picture. Both are hard to do... but it is generally much easier to do a detailed painting the larger the image is.

I realize this is not a very unique image. My dad saw a similar painting in some gift catalog and asked if I would do a similar one. After a glance at the catalog image, I must of started the painting maybe five years ago... got it about fifty percent done... then stuck it on the shelf along with some other incomplete works. Today, since the weather was nice, I decided to take it outside to finally finish it.

The rabbit and the goddess of the moon is a common culture mythic tale. Whereas today, people say they see a man-on-the-moon, in most regions and cultures worldwide, until recently the moon was seen as a goddess (Sailor moon anyone?). Tales frequently refer to a magic bunny on the moon. If you look at the moon, you can actually see a very clear image of what looks like a bunny. In China and Japan, this rabbit lived on the moon and made rice cakes that gave immortality (ever wonder why Sailor moon has ponytails that look like rabbit ears?).
