Description
I awoke in the den with the smell of fridge air touching the roof of my mouth. My yawn sent steam to greet the air and later drifted away. Being a pup had its disadvantages; not thick enough fur.  Chills went down my spine as I looked to my left seeing my brethren asleep quietly.  "Pandora, awake before the others I see?" I heard a growl from my father.
He looked at me with drowsy eyes that shone red and twinkled from the snow. The scar over his right eye was fading but, still exposed. He smiled before approaching me to lay down next to me. As he walked his coarse, black fur settled on his back as his green claws gripped the ice like it was the enemy. His under belly being exposed colored the ice green from reflection.
"Yes father, I cannot seem to stay asleep for long..." I whispered as if in shame.
"I can understand, when I was a pup with 1 year on me like yourself, I was as awake as you." He said smiling as his white fangs glinted in the rising sun.  He turned back to see if any of the others have awoken and none have.
"Father why haven't my teeth grown as big as yours?" I said angrily, digging my developing, red claws into the icy ground. "I want to be like you and go hunting with the hunters, and be like my mother and lead the way!" I said looking up to the sky proudly.
"Pandora, you are very young, be patient and they will come and you will be the best hunter and leader the Eastern Prexene has ever seen!" My father exclaimed nuzzling me gently on my side.
"Scar, one of the guards saw a western xenforma off the territory boundaries, close to camp." A male xenforma with snow, white fur and yellow eyes sternly said as he approached us. His claws were golden along with his underbelly and tail tip. He shone like the sun and seemed as if he was the sun itself, giving him his name, Taiyo meaning sun.
"Taiyo inform the other guards and make sure he does not get in out territory and, if he does make sure he does not escape. I will be out in a few to check the boundaries myself." My father snarled showing his hate for the Western Prexene through his voice and eyes. My tail whipped back and forth with anxiousness as I listened closely to their conversation.
"Yes sir." Taiyo said trotting away to inform the other guards. My father turned to look at me and I saw the disgust in his eyes.
"How dare those damned westerns think they can come onto our territory!" He snarled, baring his fangs at the ice which showed slightly his reflection. "Pandora I will be back, stay here." He said as he got up and left the den.  My ears flattened and I walked slowly over to my mother's warm nest. I waited for my father's return.
"Pandora, are you awake?" I heard my brother ask as he poked me with his chilly nose.
"Yeah, I am True." I said looking at him. He was handsome for a male xenforma. His silky, gray fur fell softly across his back. His eyes were almost pure white as his slit pupils cut through the iris. His under belly ice blue along with the tip of his tail. His toes ice blue with white claws. A swirl on his right shoulder which colored white.
"Good we can go play!" His whined as he tackled me onto my back. I giggled and then remembered father and Taiyo's conversation about the intruder.
"Brother, father said there was a western intruder, I don't think we can go out there unless an adult is with us." I said stretching out and tilting my head at him. He sighed and plopped on the ice and growled.
"Stupid western xenformas ruining all the fun." He growled as he looked to the outside of the den wondering where father was. "I hope he is back soon because I want to go play!" He barked waking up Suki.
"True your yip is ear piercing and woke me up." Suki said stretching out her pure white body. Her eyes opened slightly revealing her neon pink eyes. On her hind leg a soft, neon pink heart laid. Once she revealed her face from her fluffy tail she got up to walk to us. She was not out sister but, the daughter of the nurse.  "Good morning to you two." She said smiling drowsily.
"Morning." I said as I turned to sit in the mouth of the den to look for father. True and Suki followed closely behind.
"Suki, do you know what position you want to be in the pack when you grow up?" True asked curiously to Suki. Suki blinked as she was in the thought process.
"I want to be like my mother; a nurse." She said closing her eyes and grinning sweetly at him. I cocked my head a bit and thought about how I do not have a choice on what to be. I was born as the leader of the Eastern Prexene, and nothing else. "What do you want to be?" She asked directing it True. He blushed slightly before turning away in thought.
"It sounds silly but, I want to be a pup watcher so I can help raise them. I can help the be like me; awesome and powerful!" He chuckled jokingly about the awesome and powerful part. They didn't bother asking me what I wanted to be. "Pandora gets to be leader...how cool!" True said pushing me over slightly.
"That is certain but, those words are a lock that if I wanted to change I cannot." I said as a sort of riddle and I couldn't help but, laugh at my own words.
"She is right but, Pandora being leader means you can be apart of everything and the best of everything!" Suki said laughing as she looked at me. I sighed slightly before giving her a cold response.
"Being the best at everything is not my dream like some..." I said as I saw my father approaching the den. "Father what is going on?" I asked as he entered.
"We need a prexene meeting at once." My father said sternly as blood dripped off his fangs and hate filled his slit eyes.
