Description    Everybody knows the Biblical story of Eve, who give credence to the lies of the serpent and pick the Forbidden Fruit. Eating it, Adam and Eve commit the Original Sin and are banished forever from the Garden of Eden. Much less known are the apocryphal traditions concerning Lilith, who would be the first woman, created together with Adam before Eve (the Bible says that God firstly created man and woman together, then took Eve from Adam's rib, so the creation of woman seems to happen twice). The legends say that Lilith rebelled against Adam and God himself, voluntarily leaving the Garden of Eden, but without ever having eaten the Forbidden Fruit, therefore, remain immortal. She would then become a lover of demons and demon herself, persecuting the descendants of Eve (the woman who had replaced her), kidnapping children from the cribs. A female demon called Lilitu was also present in Mesopotamian mythology (Sumerian-Assyrian-Babylonian), sometimes likened to great goddesses as Ishtar-Astarte. She was associated with nocturnal animals such as owls and cats, or even the snake. The identification with the owl is evident in certain artistic representations, in which she is depicted with wings and bird claws instead of feet. According to some traditions, the serpent of Eden was merely a transformation of Lilith, which wanted to take revenge on Adam and Eve. In fact, many Renaissance paintings show the snake with woman's head, or even with the entire female torso.
