Description Paul Frick, German (classical- and jazz-trained) composer, performer, producer of house music, and classical mastermind behind the acoustic techno group, Brandt Brauer Frick (and now the Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble , which I would love to play trombone with ). I'd be surrpised if anyone who watches me has heard of BBF, but I'd also heartily recommend this, which is several degrees of awesome: [link]

[Probably not the kind of music you'd expect me to listen to, but then again I listen to just about everything from Max Raabe and the music of the Weimar period to Rammstein... I guess BBF fits right in somewhere!]

First painting to come out of this new hard disk, after the sudden, epically horrible death of my last one. It initially started as an exercise to make sure that what I'd managed to save of my palettes had transferred properly (check), my custom brushes were in (check), and my tablet worked properly (ch---oh shit. But more on that another time), but then it just... kinda went on. I'm kind of enjoying this prolonged break from my usual clean and tidy (translation: anal-retentive) work.

Thanks very much!

I see you have a Tom Ripley contest. No promises, but if I can get an entry done in time, I'll send it in.

We have around 6 weeks left before the deadline. And the deadline will be extended if I have less than 30 entries. It will be my great honor if a very talented artist like you can join my contest. In case you have started working on your entry and not sure if you can finish it in time, just note me. I can extend the deadline just for your wonderful entry.

Believe it or not... I have heard of them! Heh. I really like this painting and it looks a lot like him (not that that's a surprise). Love the colours, and the sketchy look of the whole thing. I really like the facial hair and the glasses as well.

You have - awesome! And thanks very much. I like the idea of going "sketchy" for a while.

Yes indeed! They're pretty cool. And hah, I like that idea too, you have my full support. Not that I don't like your other stuff, but it's cool to see different techniques and styles and so on.

It's fun exploring different styles. I see you've been doing some exploring yourself.

It is! And yeah, I get kinda sick of it all if I just do the same thing over and over... at the very least I need to do quick stuff between the really detailed pieces, or I go mad. *lol*

Sanity and reality aren't the same, Far. In this case, though, I'll argue that you painted each hair repeatedly expecting a different result. And it looks like they are indeed different. Hrm.

Oh, I do that. Not only with hair, but straight lines and curved lines. I just keep hitting CTRL+Z.

Beautiful painting, I had to ask my wife about the subject matter though, she's into that kind of music. As to your hardware issues may I recomend you purchase a copy of spinrite to A) try to recover your data off the damaged drive (its what it does) and B) to run as regular maintenance on your current drive.

DarthFar In reply to karanua [2011-05-06 02:52:50 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, and thanks for the heads up! I've finally managed to pull everything important out of the old drive, but a programme that could run regular maintenance on my new one and warn me of impending disasters would be very handy indeed.

you ge it there, I've been using it since version 3 and I've never had a hard disk fail on its own. (had power spikes wreck them but spinrite is gods gift to hard disks)
