SO I decided to be Byakuya at Metrocon next year instead of Renji.. this way I have more variety in my character types AND I won't have to do all those crazy tattoos..I made everything except for the socks..
I'm actually quite proud of this... I promise I'm going to take some legit photogs this fall with a setting and everything, so be expecting some better pics of all my cosplays!![update] I added a pic of the side/back.. the "6" character is there I promise!

You make a great Byakuya. I love the hair grips! Looks fantastic.
Re the kimono top of the shihakusho - fold left over right. Traditionally, right over left is reserved only for the dead in Japan. Although Byakuya is a death-god, he still tends to wear it as if he's alive. Weird point of trivia, I know. I found this on wiki while researching Japanese funeral rites (don't ask!).For some reason, if you live in the West, as I do, it's natural to fold right over left.

wow! thanks for the tip! I only do it this way to hide the seam of the extension I had to add to the white strip, though it's not really that noticeable.. (it's supposed to go under the black but I didn't want to wear two layers.. it's too hot where I live!) Now that I know, I'll do it proper next time!

I bought my costume - it's black with white seams - so I didn't even get the option of two layers.
