competition entry for the competition.The competition is to 'draw an FF8 character as a traditional FF class'. Unfortunately, it seems the entrants have misunderstood the description to mean 'draw an FF8 character dressed in another FF character's clothes'.
This is an example of what I meant when I suggested the competition. Imagine they made a sequal to FF8, and you had character classes, so like Squall and friends could turn into a blackmage, or a thief or a samurai (ie. traditional FF classes Redmage, monk, Alchemist...you know). This is a drawing of how Rinoa might look if she was made into 'gunner' class. I hope it inspires people to make some more imaginative entires.
If somebody enters something imaginative, regardless of the quality of the art, and especially if it doesn't win, I'll do them a giftart as a prize for imagination!

hahahaha, I think she'd have to have a big sword to be properly FanDanGo'ed (I decided that however alluring and cool guns are, FanDanGo would always stick with having the good guys with swords).
Haha, but style wise, yes, she's been Mongoose'd. I somehow doubt that this Rinoa would get captured as often as the one in the game, she's probably be running around blowing stuff up and telling Squall to get a grip 0_o'
...Maybe I should make games hahaha.

I am part of a Game making project at the mo' as a story writer and character designer. So you can look forward to some good characters in that when it comes out (though it's gonna be a big download). It has an ambiguously bisexual pirate lady in a hot pink frock coat ^_^

Technically Irvine is a 'gunner' anyway, the classes are very vague in FFVIII, but their limit breaks and weapons kind of make them into classes in a way.
Squall - Fighter/Knight
Siefer - Dark Knight
Rinoa - Red mage? Trainer? She's the character with the least obvious class.
Quistis - blue mage
Selphie - gambler
Irvine - gunner (archer)
Zell - Monk

Gunner is merely an update of the original 'archer' class if you think about it, also, there was a sort of 'gunner' thing in FFT, since Alchemists and a certain main character could use guns.

Woah, cool! A gunner Rinoa! : P I like how you worked the wing symbol and the old FF8 design elements into her outfit, the belt and the long coat both look really cool and Rinoa-esque. ^_^

Thankyouuu! I love the FF8 swirly patterns, and I wanted to work the angelwing into the design as well. Unfortunately after all that detail work...people just look and go 'oh, it's a cross between Rinoa and Yuna.' AAGH! NO IT'S NOT!

Thanks. It's really more 'generic FFX-2 gunner class' than specifically Yuna's, though because Yuna's is a lot more flowy and stuff, it fit with Rinoa better than Paine and Rikku's.

Umm, yeah, plus this was never intended to be a 'combination' of Yuna and Rinoa, I've really just modified Rinoa to bring her closer to the 'gunner' look than specifically done some kind of 'merge'. If you look carefully at the detail on the image, I've put in a lot more FF8 influences, and even the guns she's holding aren't actually Yuna's guns, but plainer ones, more in fitting with the world of FFVIII where technology is commonplace rather than ancient and revered.
As for Rikku and Lulu, When Rikku becomes a black mage in FFX-2, she looks nothing like Lulu, so we know that Blackmage Rikku shows little resemblance to Lulu to begin with. The point of the excersize was to draw them as the class, not as the character, as I stated in the image description.
