Should Sunset Shimmer return to Equestria, but somehow rendered unconscious, who would be the first pony's face for her to lay eyes on upon waking up? Flash Sentry, the boy she had only met once since foalhood, yet had grown to admire in years of absence and distance? Well, look at him now. The colt she'd remembered has grown into a handsome stallion in a decade. And he's a Royal Guard in the Crystal Empire.
Just... what would Flash think of Sunset now? Has he heard what she had done? Would he forgive her? Could they... start over? Besides, they have a decade to catch up on each other's past lives. It'd take some time before Sunset can give Flash the nickname "Flashy," and he calling her "Sunny" in return.

Think of this romance as if they were Christine Daaé and Viscount Raoul de Chagny from Gaston Leroux's classic novel, The Phantom of the Opera, which is later adapted into the world-famous Broadway musical. Just add a few elements of Jack Griffon and Flora Cranley from The Invisble Man (1933), adapted from the novel by H. G. Wells, to spice up the conflict. Not every love doesn't hit a few bumps on the road but you can make it work.
