Description

Decided to make a few AU designs of the MLP:FiM gals and well... needless to say I got a bit carried away!
The file is hugeeee (I was a dunce and didn't realize until it was too late how gosh darned BIG the file was gonna be, whoops!), so you may need to download it to view it properly.

Also I'm veryyyy tired; if there's crap grammar, that's why.

Backstory
(TL;DR at end)

The basis of this AU is a magic educational program created by Celestia herself, and the reuniting of the mane six after a fallout in their late teens. And NO, the mane six did not live with their parents as teens. In ponies, most leave their parents when they're full grown, so around 13-16. In regards to the program of Celestia's, it does NOT just include unicorns! In this universe, unicorns aren't the only "magical" ponies; magic in other species is harder to obtain, but possible and definitely prevalent! I'll say more about this program when I have more information to give, but it is not necessarily a college; some of its students are mucccccch older. Most, however, are college-aged students. This story is set an undisclosed amount of years after the events of MLP:FiM, in which all of the mane six are adults. In this universe, Luna escaped well before the mane six even came into being, and now rules a far off kingdom where supposedly, it is always night (It's located near Luna Bay, if you're curious). She has briefly met Twilight and the other mane six in dreams, but they are unaware that it was her. Discord is still intact as a statue and not present in this AU ( I mean really, Celestia, why'd you leave the statue of the embodiment of disharmony out in the public?), however, the mane six still beat Tirek (an elderly Scorpan appeared and helped by using the Staff of Sacanas), Chrysalis, Sombra (who's pieces, interestingly, where never found), and the Storm King. Importantly, Canterlot is much, much larger now, almost entirely covering the mountain. Overall, the world is more populated and developed. Education and the importance of it is greater; gone are the one-room school houses, and now in their place lie larger schools, with separate grades and big, maze-like halls. Despite these advances, much of Equestria is still rural, and train travel is still the main mode of transportation - aside from teleportation and flying, that is!

Regarding basics of the ponies, well... Earth Ponies have an affinity for being strong physically and VERY good at moving on the ground. They may or may not have an affinity for being agile. They don't have particularly different builds, but they're generally stockier and furrier than other types of ponies. Their ears are usually rounded, but this isn't always true. Earth ponies usually have the most marking variation, yet the exact reason for this is unknown. They are the most common species, the split being 38% Earth Pony, 33% Pegasi, and 29% Unicorn at the moment. Pegasi have wings and tend to have feathers on their chest, which extend to their underbelly. They also have feathers on their rump, cheeks, shoulders, legs, and ears. They're fast, and usually agile. Their bodies are usually longer and they don't tend to hold their heads high. Flight is possible for them, each Pegasi having differing amounts of air/weather affinity. Their wings are usually two-toned, but markings do exist. Their ears are usually longer and very fluffy. Markings are a possibility, but significantly less common than on Earth Ponies, yet more common than on Unicorns. Speaking about Unicorns... they have the strongest affinity for magic. They don't tend to be extremely agile, but are naturally gifted in magic. Their magic can be used the most readily in complex spells, levitation, and charms/wards/curses. They are usually shorter-bodied and longer-legged. They tend to have an arch in their neck, but this isn't true for all Unicorns. Their ears usually curve towards/away from each other or curl backwards. Their tails can be like that of a traditional unicorn (25% of unicorns), or like that of a pony (75% of unicorns); this dictates class, usually. Traditional-tailed unicorns tend to have more success and are preferred over pony-tailed unicorns. Horns vary; some are curved, some are not, and a rare few spilt or twist. Alicorns are combinations of mostly Unicorns and Pegasi, but some may gain Earth Pony traits.

There is a human AU of this AU (AU of an AU? Yep!) and it's basically the same. In the "human" AU, the characters have somewhat gem-like bumps where their horns or wings would be, and if they don't have these (aka earth ponies!), they'd have gems on their feet. They project horns, wings, and "legs" (I'll draw it someday, maybe, but the legs look like horse legs and just cover the person's legs, not get rid of them) when practicing magic.

TL;DR: the mane six are older and in a school program together after they had a fallout with each other, some villains aren't relevant, luna is bad (?), Equestria is more populated/developed, unicorns/pegasi/earth ponies are more varied,and a human AU exists

Info: Twilight is still a nerd in this AU, (obviously!) and harbors a deep intrigue for books, magic, and all things old and dusty. She's fond of lists and planning out literally all aspects of her life, from grocery lists, to to-do lists, and to plans for her funeral. While Twilight is no longer a shut-in, she has regressed into being much less of a friendly pony after splitting from her friends. Twilight recently enrolled as a student of one of Canterlot's most prestigious education programs, the Canterlot Initiative University (CIU), which offers schooling, housing, and a generous amount of free time. She cannot use powerful magic correctly after the incident that led to her falling out with her friends. Twilight hopes she can fix her magic through her education and constructing a spell.

Nicknames: RD, Rainbow, Dash, Dashie
Age: 18-21
Species: Pegasus
Info: Rainbow loves flying... a lot! She's attending the CIU in order to be a part of their competitive flying team in hopes of being seen as a worthy candidate for the Wonderbolts one day. She's completely up to date on Daring Do, and every so often goes on an escapade with the writer/adventurer. Rainbow is on tough terms with her parents; although they appear very supportive and happy, behind closed doors is a different story... On the bright side, Rainbow is very invested in her studies (by studies, I mean practicing whenever she can to improve her skills in flying), and was exceedingly glad to hear that having a pet was not only allowed at CIU, but strongly encouraged! Despite her aerial prowess, after the fallout of the mane six, she can no longer preform sonic rainbooms.

Age: 18-22
Species: Earth Pony
Info: AJ hated the thought leaving her family home, but decided to go to CIU when she received a scholarship in agricultural magic. Despite not having much interest in the "voo-doo" that Granny Smith and Big Mac are so scarily good at, she decides to go anyways, believing it's in the best interest of Sweet Apple Acres. Honestly, she mostly goes because she feels like a disappointment because she struggles with magic, and any meager ability she had vanished when the mane six fractured. She doesn't wear her mane up anymore because she cut it shorter, and she doesn't tie her tail to match her mane. AJ smuggles her dog, Winona, in with her to CIU, along with her favorite boots and hat. AJ's path in life is supposed to be working on the Apple family farm... but she's got a secretly growing interest in music that's hard for her to ignore.

Info: Fluttershy was perfectly happy living with her animals in her house when one day, her animals started falling ill, namely Angel. She soon found that some other pets around town had this ailment, but another group of pets seemed immune to it. In an attempt to figure out how to cure these animals, Flutter started researching medicine and posting fliers around town asking for help. CIU noticed, and recognizing Fluttershy, Celestia sent her an invitation to the school on full scholarship, like the rest of the mane six. Fluttershy happily accepted, but was reluctant to leave at first, fearing that her animals wouldn't have anyone to take care of them. Tree Hugger stepped in, offering to watch her animals for her, and Fluttershy went to CIU. Weirdly, Fluttershy can't quite seem to understand animals very well ever since the mane six disbanded...

Species: Unicorn
Info: Rarity was a star in Canterlot. She had her own boutique and a special line of clothes. But after a fiasco that resulted in revealing that she was not a traditional-tailed unicorn, she lost her boutique and social standing. Almost broke and totally lost, Rarity scrounged up money to buy herself a tiny, crappy apartment on the edge of Canterlot. She was lucky enough to get a job with a florist, having a spectacular color-matching vision that set her apart from the rest of the candidates. One day, she decided to apply to colleges for the fun of it, hoping that maybe, just maybe, she'd get accepted. Low and behold, she did, and Rarity immediately started packing to move into the dorms of CIU. She bid goodbye to the kind florist and took herself and her cat to the school. Ever since the fallout between her and her friends, Rarity has had a knack for messing up stitching and tearing fabric.

Species: Earth Pony
Info: Although the mane six disbanded, Pinkie took their promises to never leave each other to heart. She hasn't given up hope that they'll be on better terms again, even though it's been quite a while since she's even seen them. Pinkie still loves to bake, but planning parties just doesn't have that same spark anymore after her friends left. She still works at the bakery in Ponyville. At her job, Pinkie especially loves decorating large, elaborate cakes and creating zany new pastry designs. She's great at keeping her mane fluffy and a smile on during the day, no matter how tired she feels. Yet at night, when she's all alone, Pinkie has a hard time keeping the dark thoughts of her friends never returning out of her mind. One day, while she's selling some confections, a mailpony gives Pinkie a letter of invitation to CIU. Without even reading the letter, Pinkie accepts immediately, claiming her "Pinkie sense" was urging her to do it.
