.: I enjoyed the sunshine which fell warm on my back. The air was filled with the nickers of all the other horses, they smelled so nervous and proud. I rubbed my head against Kirill’s shoulder – I wanted to calm him down ‘cause I thought that he would be nervous, too. Well, he does not show himself in competition every day.
It was good that he took me with him to this pleasant facility and I wished he had the chance to stay a few hours on the pastures, the grass there was excellent, fresh and juicy, tender spring grass.
And then there were all the other horses – elegant mares and stallions, all of them shining in the sun. Oh how I enjoyed watching them, moving in the warm sand of the area.
Earlier in this morning, after the man with the clipboard had looked into my mouth and stretched my legs, we had a bit time to run around in the arena – Kirill saddled me and lunged me, I loved to move, to stretch my legs.
And there was another horse, just like me, in the arena. While we ran we could talk a bit, he told me about juicy pastures high up in the north, where it rains often and the crisp breezes carry a salty taste of sea with them.
Oh how I want to see this place…
After the lunge Kirill groomed me and I relaxed a bit. I love when he does this, and when he’s braiding my hair, it’s itching a bit but he uses to talk to me while he’s doing it and I enjoy his voice. It remembers me of the times I was a filly and he had spent hours in my box.
Then I use to rub my head against him, sniffle in his pockets for red apples, nibble his hair tender to show my affection to him, he’s my favourite human.
And then it was time, we stepped forward to the arena, now filled with black and white humans, all of them carrying clipboards.
I already know what this means, I remember the last competition which was similar.
I know that the black and white human are judges, and all of them want to look at Kirill, who’s holding me. I know that he expects me to stand still, not saying a word to the other horses.
“I will behave myself, I promise” I nicker tender into my human’s ear as he leads me into the sunshine. And as he stands calm besides me, smiling at the judges, he makes me the proudest mare in the world – because I know that Kirill is a handsome human, the judges will be pleased to see him…
