I was wandering if you could let me us this image for an Android game called "Kingdoms of Myth", it's turn based strategy game based on a fantasy World. You can find a little bit more info in this rough website made by my colleges [link] (Sorry for the bad English). Of course you will have full credits of your work and link to your webpage if you want

Lot of thanks for your time

Fabulous and magnificent image.

It's a shame that the Templar Knights got arrested and slowly roasted to death on Friday, Oct. 13 1307 in Order by Pope Clement V and the early Church

dashinvaine In reply to JurgenDoe [2008-01-07 22:35:38 +0000 UTC]

Yes, although it was more the handiwork of King Philip IV than of Pope Clement V. The pope didn't even know about the arrests until after they had happened. The Templars weren't all burnt, and none of them were burnt immediately. They were tortured by the French Inquisition, though, which by then took its orders from the king primarily. They were made to confess to heresy, depravity, exchanging indecent kisses, worshipping a head, denying Christ and spitting on the cross. Only those who later changed their plea and insisted they were innocent and that they were loyal Catholics were burned. None were burned in other countries, either, eg England, Spain or Cyprus, but a few died in prison.

Yup I know I have the research book too but the church was against the Knights because the became to powerful about there knowledge after returning from the Holy Land and King Philip IV just believed the lies that was told and he was after their riches and the treasure becaue the Order became very wealthy.
It was just a plot and saying the worshiped an idol called Baphomet, in a shape of a disembodied head.
The last Grand Master Jacques de Molay along with other leaders after languishing in prison for more then 7 years was slowly roasted to death near Notre-Dame.
It's a known fact that the French Monarchy and the Church of Rome ended the glory time of the Knight Templars!!!

Heh... Im not specialist for painting so no coments except - its realy nice, but as for details...
Shields like this is never with metal corners. Such gloves for templar? templar disapear in 1307 , ant gloves like this is posible only in 14cent end... And chainmail with short sleeves - its not good idea too...

dashinvaine In reply to tadasd [2007-11-25 19:27:06 +0000 UTC]

That's a bit pedantic, all that, but quite true. I was more faithful to the reenactor I based the image on than to history. Artistic licence came in to play too. The shield looks more substantial with a metal border, and the shorter-sleeved mail coat (accurate for the late eleventh/early twelfth century but not later) simply saved me having to do any more links of mail, which is the most tedious and fiddly thing there is to paint!

I've actually written two books on the Templars. On the second one the publishers originally wished to include a suit of 16th century plate armour! This is based on the image I persuaded them to use, and though not perfect it's much more accurate for the time of the crusades than the alternative.

1307 in fact. Exactly 700 years ago. 1312 was the year when the Order of the Temple was officially abolished by Papal edict.

Amazing image... Visiting the oasis of Engandi (near the Dead Sea (not very far from Jerusalem), one of the Saladin's beloved spots, I saw that there is a place that really looks like the background of your painting...
Love the theme, lighting and atmosphere!!

The background is semi based on the Kidron Valley near Jerusalem, where there are those tombs. They are from the time of Herod, apparently.

anubis In reply to dashinvaine [2007-10-08 19:55:07 +0000 UTC]

Engandi is also not far from Masada, where the palace of Herod and the Roman forts still stand...
You have got the light of the place quite right....
I remember the awfully hot weather there, near the end of September a few years back and I wonder what were the temperatures under this kind of armor...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

dashinvaine In reply to anubis [2007-10-08 21:43:53 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. The Christians were half dead from the climate, roasting in their armour without water, before they even met the Saracens at Hattin.
