Description
Merry Christmas, happy holidays, and happy Hearth's Warming Eve!
At the eve of the twenty-fourth of December, the lights are put up on the tall tree near a cabin in the Northern forest. Everything is setup for Christmas and the holidays and as Pinkie and Applejack relax by the warmth and light of the fireplace inside, a bright-green aurora lights up the night sky, filling the inside with a green color that the ponies just had to go outside to take a long look at. Outside, they watch the aurora brightening the midnight sky with its mesmerizing movement and green glow. Presents have been placed by the tree, ready to be opened the following day.
This is the first half of what I have prepared for the two days of Christmas and the peak of the holidays in general and this particular project took me 9 hours and 32 minutes to make, from the background trees to the cabin exterior and interior to the sculpting of the snow in the foreground to the presents themselves. I hope you all love it and enjoy it and feel free to offer any helpful feedback for the future.
This was rendered in Blender 2.79b in the Cycles engine, taking 2:01:34.72 (or 121:34.72) to render at 1,023,351 vertices and 1,152,563 triangles at 3000 samples. It also uses an HDR map of what I think is resembling Freezeflame Galaxy's sky from Super Mario Galaxy (copyright and owned by Nintendo).
The pony models used created by these users and not by me:
kp-shadowsquirrel, poninnahka, juicedane, aeridiccore
...and all credit to making the 3d models go to them.
The tree models are made in the tree generator Arbaro and if you're curious what preset I used, it was the tamarack tree, also known as the eastern larch native to Canada and some northern states of the United States, even though it's usually fir trees that are used as the Christmas tree.
