Description As Dee and her nakama build a colony for themselves in the asteroids, they find a need for a workhorse vessel - and design a class of spaceship which fills all their needs, and then some.

The inital model used for the first trips, the SF-0 "Zip", had a somewhat different drive configuration than became standard. Once it was rebuilt with the new manufacturing processes available on the V-type asteroids, it was redesignated the SF-1 "Love". The next ships sharing the design were the SF-2 "Unity", SF-3 "Imagination", SF-4 "Napier", SF-5 "Ludolph", and SF-6 "Euler". Most official markings are English written in the Unifon script.

I'm the only person who's ever used the nom de net "DataPacRat". If I recall correctly, I was banned from StarDestroyer for saying that, according to certain records, Zeus is my 120th-great grandfather. ... it's been something like five years, so I'm afraid that I don't remember the particular details.

ok, cool so it WAS you. I like randomly came upon this DA in random stuff on the sideboard for some alternate history maps.

I don't know why, but for some reason I feel this is the beginning of a Sci-Fi Horror movie.

It is indeed refreshing to see a more realistic take on spacecraft. Impressive numbers you have there, too.
Surprising how many miss the importance of radiator panels

I've gotten into the habit of preferring science-fiction which is based on, well, actual science; or at least doesn't blatantly contradict the ways we've learned the universe works. And for SF in space, that means physics - for which one of the best references there is is Atomic Rockets, [link] .

I know the site. Do you happen to have any suggested reading? Books or novels, that is.

Hm... Planetes is one of my top choices, both manga and anime; for novels, there's Kim Stanley Robinson's Red/Green/Blue Mars trilogy; and another set of printed books worth a gander is the TransHuman Space RPG.

For some further choices, the Mundane Dogmatic article at TVTropes, [link] , has a good selection.

Well done sir it is something different to see the colors of the solar panels being red brownish compared to the regular blue/black

I appreciate the compliment; but I'm afraid that those big red panels aren't solar panels at all - they're heat radiators, frantically dumping hundreds of megawatts of heat generated from the furious nuclear boiling reactions of the drive. The redness is because they are, quite literally, red hot - 2700 K (or 4400 degrees Fahrenheit), to be specific.

Remember, vacuum is a great insulator; it's what makes a Thermos bottle so good at keeping its contents' temperature steady. Carefully managing heat is necessary both for the equipment and crew; if the radiators get damaged, there is a very real possibility of important pieces of the ship getting so hot they'll melt, including, say, the crew.

Hopefully I'll get to do a few more in later artwork (Molsk Logistics and Space Movers are keepers), both for this and in concept work for 's Solarstorm 1000.
