Description This is a kind of Thai shadow puppet called 'Nang Yai' which means 'large puppet'. There is another type of Thai shadow puppet that is more well known in the south of Thailand called 'Nang Talung' but the difference of these two types of puppets is the size. Usually the size of Nang Taluang puppets is about a foot or a little larger while Nang Yai puppets' size starts from 2 feet to 4 feet. Also that Nang Talung usually tells the story of ordinary people but Nang Yai performs according to the story of Ramayana.

In this photo, the puppet is one of monkeys leaders whose name I'm not sure what does it write in English but he's an eldest brother of Hanuman.
