Description
To the left of the Mahabodhi Temple rises the legendary Bodhi tree, the main symbol of Buddhism. It marks where the authentic Bodhi tree once stood, under which the Buddha achieved enlightenment. The tree under which Gautama attained enlightenment did not persist, but another tree was developed from its seed. The current Bodhi tree is the fifth generation of that same Bodhi tree. In this place, Buddhist monks read or meditate in harmony and peacefulness. This Bodhi Tree is still alive and considered our planet's elder documented tree.
