Here's my entry for W-R-E-C 's redesign contest. There wasn't a lot I disliked about his original design, and I was careful to consider his existing offspring, many of whom have design elements taken directly from his coloring.

I also checked out his sire, and though the dam is unavailable for me to study, I can see lots of elements in his design that were inspired by him (Farce - fav.me/d1pa74t ). Not to mention two of Carded's offspring also have that off white leg that Farce has. I didn't just want to bulldoze over all that consideration and thought.

The only part of his design I couldn't get over was that blobby... thing... on his back. Everything else was perfect but I couldn't find a trace of that part of the design in either his parents or his children.

So, taking inspiration from one of his colts (Trickster - fav.me/d22p7ci ) and staying true to the traits that passed onto the rest of his kids and the overall balance of the design, this is what I came up with. I tried to emulate the "feel" of the shape on his back and incorporate the black line while giving it an overhaul in clarity and readability, while still incorporating heart shapes. If needed, the two red spikes could be connected into one running line more like his original design.

Same as before:

Black muzzle with a line going out around the lip

Mirrored front legs with white diamonds on the knees

Three black hearts on each side of his neck

Red heart and tear over both eyes

Tribal blaze on head

Hazel eyes

White back legs and tail

Added/Changed:

Red heart at base of collar on breast

Simplified black collar around neck

A black dorsal stripe running up the mane that ends in a red heart

Red tribal markings on withers/barrel

Black diamond on the top of the head where the forelock grows
