Description Based on one of John Howe's designs for the dragon. Sketched up in HB pencil in one evening.

Sorry that it's a photo and that crease really bugs me but I don't have a scanner at the moment so it'll have to do :/

anyway enjoy!

well animal anatomy isnt exactly my forte and i didnt use any references for this apart from a john howe book with this version of smaug in it. basically i just thought of it like one of the avatar animals with 6 limbs so it would have 2 sets of shoulders or something one right under the other, one becomes the wings, the other would be the front legs...something like that :/ it makes sense in my head

i just wondered wether the wings were supported enough on the eely body the placement makes perfect sense to me, too - where else should one have one's shoulders

no idea mate, tho dragon anatomy has always had controversy to an extent in that the most fantastical one could never have a strong grounding in reality beyond texturing etc cuz teh anatomy just wouldnt work so who knows lol...as long as it looks pretty

you should get the special edition of ImagineFX that deals purely in anatomy. It's helped me no end since i got it a few weeks ago and is always there for reference now
