I will open with this statement.  "I have never claimed that my images are not retouched in one manner or another."  Ansel Adams was even known to spend hours dodging and/or burning at his prints.  Furthermore, I would say at least 75% of all landscape photography you are currently seeing coming out, is far from a "Faithful" .jpg image direct from the camera.  But then again what is that .jpg but an engineer's interpretation of the data collected on that sensor.

Most of my images suffer from what I remember the scene looked like, and sometimes it is a romantic memory, consisting of at least some embellishment.  This image was captured with an exposure compensation of -0.66 to help prevent blowout from the bright sky overhead.  As you can notice now,  that lifeless bright sky has been cropped out in this 1:2 format, as well as several foreground stones.  I also used a personally devised tone-mapping technique to increase my definition throughout the image, thanks to Photomatrix Pro.  There is also a bit of sharpening, and a 15% increase in saturation.  I consistently use the 50 setting for Clarity and 35 setting for vibrance in Photoshop.
