So when you say race meeting, what does that mean? Do you still race?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

davejsy In reply to PinkDaisy08 [2010-04-05 21:45:47 +0000 UTC]

Well we have 9 horse race meetings a year in Jersey, and today was the first one of the year. Each meeting has 5 races. I rode last year, I think there are pics on facebook. I'm not sure that i will ride this year as my weight is quite high this year, but Benji should still run, I just have to find a jockey for him.

what are your credentials? And what experience do you have of handling fat hairy beasts?

pyrrhite In reply to davejsy [2010-04-06 02:25:58 +0000 UTC]

Handling hairy bre--oh, beasts...
quite a bit of that, in a variety of incarnations and applications.
Plus I've seen National Velvet two or three times.

ha ha your funny. National Velvet? Will have to look that up.

That */p [my cat just walked across the keyboard and did some poetry, think I'll leave it.] proves you're a guy at least. Never heard of National Velvet?
Wow. Did you Google it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

davejsy In reply to pyrrhite [2010-04-06 20:43:09 +0000 UTC]

was your cat chasing your avatar? I've never seen that film, I'll have to see if I can find it to hire. Have you seen Champions? That's a film based on a true story about the grand national, it's actually really good.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pyrrhite In reply to davejsy [2010-04-07 18:05:35 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha.

No, but he does like to walk over on the keyboard on his way to my lap. Very aggravating because I'm usually ostensibly working on a drawing when I'm in front of the computer so I have to run interference between him and the drawing board.
If you rent National Velvet (go with the original 12 year old Elizabeth Taylor version) do you suppose eyebrows will be raised? Will you have some splainin' to do?
I have not seen Champions. Is it in anywise sad?

davejsy In reply to pyrrhite [2010-04-07 21:08:17 +0000 UTC]

Well actually if I walked into my video shop and asked for National Velvet, I reckon I would probably walk out with some dodgy porn vid!!

Champions is sad in the middle, but ultimately it's an immense triumph over adversity for both man and horse in the worlds toughest horse race.

I read up on Champion, I'm sure I would enjoy it, and I can handle sad as long as the horse doesn't die. We do Netflix so we don''t have to worry about raising eyebrows.

davejsy In reply to pyrrhite [2010-04-08 11:23:39 +0000 UTC]

I think you would enjoy it, it also shows a lot of rural life in England. Also there is a great film called The Belstone Fox which you would probably like [link] .

pyrrhite In reply to davejsy [2010-04-08 12:37:30 +0000 UTC]

Hm. It's not on Netflix and not even for sale here apparently. I read the Amazon UK reviews. It would break my heart, but it sounds beautiful. I'd be a puddle within the first five minutes apparently.

davejsy In reply to pyrrhite [2010-04-08 16:33:00 +0000 UTC]

yes I guess it is a bit sad, but it's all about the fox out smarting the huntsmen which is pretty cool!
