Description Still reading a very good book on oil painting landscapes. The reference for this was just an example in the book, but it caught my eye, so I decided to do a digital version, in the style of a traditional. Made entirely with a mouse.

Description from the book:

"The dynamic furrows lead the eye directly to the focal point provided by the tree. In order that this focal point does not overpower the painting, a dividing line of complimentary colours, violet against yellow, has been used in the background, this draws the eye towards other areas of the painting."

The artist of the original oil painting is Rachel Shirley:

I like the colors. Even before I read your comments, I felt my gaze being led again and again to the tree. You might have already visited this site, but I'll include the [link] -- I think the author has some awesome tips on painting landscapes, although the tips are prolly all covered in the book you're reading. Happy Painting!

Thanks. My current interest is to mimic various traditional media with digital software, which is miles easier with Mypaint than with GPS. I think the book deals mostly with impasto landscapes, which I think is impossible to mimic reasonably unless using Artrage or Deep Paint. Will definitely look into your link.

Thanks for commenting.
