Description TCC = Tetsuko Cosplay Calendar

So Tetsuko comes bounding into the studio… "Know who I want to cosplay as for November?"

My ears pricked up; although Tet-chan has been amazingly cooperative with some of the wild ideas I've had for TCCs, I've never heard her suggest one on her own. "Well, um… tell me."

"You know Kara, the belly dancer at the beginning of that Star Trek episode?"

"'Wolf in the Fold'. Yeah, I'm familiar with her…"

"I want to dress up as her!"

"Huh? You want to be a minor Star Trek babe? A girl who gets murdered in the teaser?? At the hands of Scotty of all people??"

"C'mon, David, it wasn't really Scotty who killed --"

"I know, I know --"

"Besides, it's not the first time I've cosplayed a 'minor Star Trek babe'! Remember that girl in the Greek gown ? And that 'drill thrall' from Trimaris?"

"Triskelion, yes, I remember. But those were my suggestions."

"Well, this one's mine! C'mon, it'll be fun! And I know how much you like drawing me as a belly dancer…"

Well, I have to admit she's right. I do like drawing her belly dancing. And while "The Doomsday Machine" is my favorite Star Trek episode, the first few minutes of "Wolf in the Fold" - Kara, played by the luscious Tanya Lemani, dancing for the enjoyment of Kirk, Scotty and McCoy - are my favorite moment out of a Trek episode.

(Another "useless project": I'd love to have the time to do an animation of Tetsuko doing Kara's dance from this episode, using Lemani's movements as a template. I wouldn't be able to simply rotoscope Lemani's dance, because Tetsuko and Tanya aren't, shall we say, proportioned the same. But damn, wouldn't that be something to see?)

Could You do Fallout? Grand theft Auto, or Final Fantasy. The girl from my picture here is Kos-mos an Android from Xenosaga. You could do her. Anime would also be cool. I could see her as Asuana from Sword Art Online.

Wait, Tetsuko is a real person? Is she your wife?

Oh, no - that scene is just a fictional and (I hope) clever way of explaining the picture for those who might not know who the "Kara" character is.

As long as you're doing minor Star Trek women, how about the ultimate minor woman - the unemotional, logical second-in-command from the original Star Trek pilot. Gene Rodenberry had to choose between dumping her or Mr. Spock because the producers didn't like strong women or aliens that looked like the Devil. Number 1 (I think that's what she was called) Tetsuko-sized whould've scared the pants off of them.

That's an interesting idea - and I remember the controversy over her (and Spock as well).

My own take on "Number One" was that I think she was dropped, not because she was a strong woman (although there was certainly that in her character, and thus a factor), but because she was unemotional, a trait that would then be grafted onto Mr. Spock. The network (I think) felt that a "cold-hearted" woman would be seen as unlikeable.

Roddenberry and the producers wanted to utilize the actress, Majel Barrett, however, and cast her as Nurse Chapel in the series. (And Barrett would go on to marry Roddenberry.)

Hmmm... you know, I notice Tetsuko looks great with that hair color. But I couldn't help but see when the maroon strands cover her locks in the figure to the right, it makes her hair (what does show) seem straighter and not quite as full-bodied... almost Mediterranean that way. And oddly... I like it!

From the writer's perspective... I was wondering how it settled in your perspective that Kara would be her suggestion. And how one gets a feel for characters "suggesting" what they want to cosplay as. That make any sense?

I'm not sure how the idea came about... most of my ideas (for better or worse) just kinda pop out of nowhere. That's certainly what happened here; the thought just came into my mind "wouldn't it be cool if I wrote about Tetsuko suggesting it herself?"

VERY BRILLIANT WORK!! One of my favorite quotes of that episode:

"I've invited her to join us at the table. I thought you might like to meet her."

"Now that is what I call a real Captain... Always thinking of his men."

Well, I doubt Scotty even in his "Red-Jacked" state would've been able to murder her. She would just smacked that dagger away, and slap Scotty silly. I add to the notion that seeing Tet-Chan belly dance would be a glorious sight to see.

From one Trekkie to another, love it , love it. "Wolf in the Fold" is one of my favorite second tier Star Trek episodes. I enjoy a good mystery. I enjoy the part when Kirk told Scotty that use lights is how the natives applaud on Aegis. Scotty says as an old pub runner he know how to applaud so he does in the normal way.
